* WereStillRelevantDammit:
** The "Oh, The Places You'll D'oh" segment ends with a TakeThat to the ''Film/TheCatInTheHat'' movie starring Creator/MikeMyers, which came out in 2003 while this episode aired ten years afterwards and isn't remembered much (except for being terrible and for [[GenreKiller killing off any chance of having live-action film adaptations of Creator/DrSeuss' stories]]). Justified [[SelfDeprecation Self Deprecatingly]] as it was Homer/The Fat in the Hat (Creator/DanCastellaneta, who also voiced Things 1 and 2 in the film adaptation) who mentioned it. Though, keep in mind, he didn't ''write'' that line, he just ''spoke'' it.
** The Creator/GuillermoDelToro film most referenced in the introduction is ''Pan's Labyrinth''. Whilst it is one of his most critically acclaimed films, it is also one of his least-known; it had been out for seven years by this point and had largely been forgotten by the public.

Examples Are Not Arguable, MEH can't be crossed in shows with Negative Continuity, the TOH specials are non-canon anyway, and the example isn't indented properly.

* MoralEventHorizon: Bart arguably crosses it when he tries to ''kill Lisa'' just to get full control of her body.
** Worse still is that he had learned to get along with Lisa and grew to accept being attached to her, which implies he [[EtTuBrute turned around on her]].

This doesn't say what's supposedly funny, if the elements mentioned were even intentioned to be dramatic.

* {{Narm}}: The opening sequence for some, considering how stylised certain redesigns of monsters in the opening sequence (the originals of which were NightmareFuel) are in order to fit the Simpsons characters who are playing them. Particular examples are Pale Man!Burns and Homer!Reaper.

* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome: The opening sequence made by Creator/GuillermoDelToro, showing a horror and sci-fi take on ''The Simpsons'' opening.

* NightmareFuel:
** The opening sequence alone has a number of them: Stephen King's SlasherSmile, everyone in town being chased by the Universal monsters (Frankenstein, Dracula, the Mummy, the Wolfman, and the Bride of Frankenstein), Homer's mouth expanding as he mutates into a [[Film/{{Blade}} Reaper]], Milhouse being run off a bridge and bitten in half by a more mutated Blinky the Fish, and Lisa falling into the couch and landing into Wonderland with ''Futurama'''s Hypnotoad and the final sequence of ''Pan's Labyrinth'' (which takes a disturbing meaning if you consider the darker theory on the film's ending).
** "The Fat in the Hat" is a demented twist on "The Cat in the Hat" who initially poses as a somewhat friendly and fun-loving fellow, only to immediately show he's unhinged. He manages to pull off a hell of a SlasherSmile.
** Bart's willingness to murder his sister so he can have her body for himself.
** Also despite the near end played for laughs, the way the freaks creep in on Homer the Strong Man before that is surprisingly creepy. It also doesn't help that it also shows [[spoiler:Mr. Burns being hanged while thunder flashes.]]

** The "Oh, The Places You'll D'oh" segment ends with a TakeThat to the ''Film/TheCatInTheHat'' movie starring Creator/MikeMyers, which came out in 2003 while this episode aired ten years afterwards and isn't remembered much (except for being terrible and for [[GenreKiller killing off any chance of having live-action film adaptations of Dr. Seuss's stories]]). Justified [[SelfDeprecation Self Deprecatingly]] as it was Homer/The Fat in the Hat (Dan Castellaneta, who also voiced Things 1 and 2 in the film adaptation) who mentioned it. Though, keep in mind, he didn’t ''write'' that line, he just ''spoke'' it.
** The Guillermo del Toro film most referenced in the introduction is ''Pan's Labyrinth''. Whilst it is one of his most critically acclaimed films, it is also one of his least-known; it had been out for seven years by this point and had largely been forgotten by the public.
* WhatAnIdiot: "Dead and Shoulders" is kicked off by Bart flying kites in a fly zone ''and'' thinking to tie the string around his neck because he forgot to bring his scarf and didn't think to just go home after a long day of kite flying.
