* HypeBacklash: The film hasn't been well received since its release, with critics and fans alike calling it a disappointment considering the credibility of its director and cast. The controversy around Steve Wilder hasn't helped it either. This backlash was worsened by the movie's Predators being seen as CanonDefilement by some for reasons explained below under TheyChangedItNowItSucks.

** The Super-Predator's character design is admittedly impressive, but the fact it features a hulking upper body on top of strangely slender legs and digitigrade feet makes it unintentionally ridiculous, like a badly done mix-and-match creature of as if he had forgot to work out on half of his body.
** [[spoiler:Autism, particularly the unrealistic IdiotSavant archetype, being considered "evolution's next step". It only avoids being offensive (if it does) by being laughably inaccurate by evolutive scientific standards. The fact that a race as biotechnology advanced as the Predators from this film would find it so is even more farfetched.]]

body. Amusingly, none of the otherwise quite spoilerific marketing pieces shows the baddie's lower body, which means the producers probably realized this by themselves at some point and tried to hide it until the release.
** That the attack dogs used by the Super Predator are literally Predator-dogs with tiny dreadlocks, instead of something like the horned hounds used in ''Film/{{Predators}}'', is already narmy by itself. However, that one of them breaks out of his training and befriends the heroes by being shot on the eye is, aside from a medical oddity only forgivable by its alien nature, just as absurd as it sounds. And then it comes the final touch: that after its turn, the damn critter starts behaving exactly like a regular dog, even becoming eager for playing fetch.
** The Predator hijacking the army truck and deceiving the clueless driver ''by holding out a severed arm with a thumbs up''. The most hilarious part is not that the Predator shockingly knows the meaning of that gesture in human culture, but that it actually works and gets him unnoticed. It looks almost like out of a Jim Abrams parody.
** [[spoiler:Autism, particularly the unrealistic IdiotSavant archetype, being considered "evolution's next step". It only avoids being offensive (if it even does) by being laughably inaccurate by evolutive scientific standards. The fact that a race as biotechnology advanced as the Predators from this film would find it so is even more farfetched.]]

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: An important complaint of the film is how out-of-character the Predator race feels in comparison with the rest of the franchise. The Predators genetically modifying themselves, [[spoiler:seeking out body parts not as hunting trophies but as genetic samples]], [[spoiler:shooting enemies around without regard for their famous standards towards opponents]], [[spoiler:creating Predator-dogs out of their own race]], and [[spoiler:building super-suits]] are all ideas that stray so away from known Yautja lore and culture that they seem like straight out of bad fanfic instead of a serious script proposition.

It is better exemplified by the main villain, who not only is genetically modified into barely resembling a Predator anymore, but does not even use his race's signature weapons and armor in the first place.

* OvershadowedByControversy: Just days before the film was set for picture lock and a week before release, the film was the center of ugly attention in the midst of the [=#MeToo=] era. It turned out Olivia Munn discovered a month prior that Steve Wilder, a friend of director Shane Black who had a bit part in the film, was a convicted sex offender. Made worse by the fact that Black was aware of Wilder's past actions, the actor having been similarly hired for Black's [[Film/IronMan3 previous]] [[Film/TheNiceGuys two]] films and Wilder playing a character that makes unwanted advances at Munn's character (who, herself, is a real-life victim of sexual harassment). Fortunately, the studio responded by having his scene cut, but it remains to be seen how much damage is done in the long run.
