* JerkassWoobie: Surly. It's hard not to feel at least a little sorry for him.

** Andie. Some people hate her for being a LawfulGood squirrel with bad dialogue and for believing in BlackAndWhiteMorality, yet having no problem working with Surly and defending him even when he's being an asshole and only caring about himself, not the park. Others like her for being a NiceGirl, an ActionGirl, and for being one of the few characters in the whole movie who isn't a {{Jerkass}}.

* UnintentionallySympathetic: The film sets up Surly as having to learn to not be such a jerk. But considering almost everyone is a jerk to him for being a non-conformist and that he was banished for a catastrophe that was just as much their fault as it was his, his attitude can be quite understandable.
* TheWoobie: Buddy. When he isn't acting like a comic relief, he could really use a hug considering how Surly treats him and how he bends over backwards to please him.

* UnintentionallySympathetic: The film sets up Surly as having to learn to not be such a jerk. But considering almost everyone is a jerk to him for being a non-conformist and that he was banished for ''them'' screwing up his plan, his attitude can be quite understandable.

** To be fair, the main advocate of banishing Surly was Raccoon. Buddy was oblivious and Grayson was suffering from a pretty traumatic, stupidity-inducing head injury at the time which rendered him unable to comprehend what was happening around him. So technically the poll for Surly's banishment was two votes short, but Raccoon counted their "votes" anyway.

* TooBleakStoppedCaring: Almost all of the characters are mean-spirited {{Jerkass}}es, {{Idiot Hero}}es who believe anything and ''everything'' [[spoiler:Raccoon]] tells them, annoying characters whose relevance to the plot is questionable at best, or {{Designated Hero}}es who are only using Surly for their own personal gain, despite the fact they kicked him out the park and don't intend to bring him back even though he's willingly helping them. Buddy is really the only character who isn't annoying, evil, idiotic, or just plain mean to others.

This often makes the film feel repetitive and feels as if the writers thought their TwoLinesNoWaiting plot was much more unique and clever than it actually was.

** More of a potential ActorAllusion, but using Gangnam Style instead of Final Countdown, given Will Arnett's involvement and the song's use by his character in ''Series/ArrestedDevelopment''.

* HoYay: A ''lot'' of this exists between Surly and Buddy.
