* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Some feel this way about Alec, saying they would have preferred the show spend more time on him as well as his and Abby's relationship before turning him into Swamp Thing.

* SpecialEffectsFailure: In the very first episode, a young boy is swinging a machete at Harlan and you can hear the blade clinking/thudding against Harlan's suit. When the scene cuts to a frontal view, the boy is much farther back and there's no way he could be making contact.

* {{Tearjerker}}: Liz's father's hallucinations while he's infected with the HatePlague - he gets flashbacks to the night where [[spoiler:his mother was murdered in front of him by some thugs who were attempting to rob the restaurant. His reactions to their taunts and jeers are heartbreaking.]]

** In the opening episode, Harlan is trying to get to a young girl who is infected with hemorrhagic fever, but the girl's brother is terrified by these strange people and brandishes a machete at them while screaming in French for them to stay away. In comes Abby, who can speak French.
*** '''You'd expect:''' Abby to calmly speak to the child through her helmet and persuade him to stop so she can help his sister.
*** '''Instead:''' She ''takes off her protective hood'' and talks the kid down, putting herself at high risk for infection!
*** '''For bonus points:''' In a scene shortly thereafter, Harlan calls her out on it... then casually slings his arm around her shoulders and hugs her, putting himself at high risk for infection too!
** Abby and a team of doctors are sent by the CDC to Marais to deal with a mysterious disease.

*** '''Instead:''' Once she meets Alec/Swamp Thing, she pretty much abandons her job and the rest of her team to spend her time in the swamp, to the point where her supervisor calls her out and shames her for it.
