Per TRS, this is YMMV

Added DiffLines:

* DifficultySpike: The first game's "Preemptive Strike" mission is the first that is less about navigation and more about keeping your submarine intact in very hostile waters.

About fans or critics praising it such audiences don't think it measures up. Not just disappointment.

* GoddamBats: Expert mode has what seem to be underwater turrets. They specialize in hitting your submarine with torpedoes off screen but are not terrible accurate, don't move and are destroyed with one torpedo, clearly being designed to prevent you from charging full speed through previously safe sections, eating up more seconds on the timer.
* HypeBacklash: A really big one, due to the game being a tech demo in 2004 and still feeling like something of a tech demo in 2011. People were of the assumption Nintendo had been working on it for seven years when they in fact had just dug the project back up to give the [=3DS=] more titles.

Added DiffLines:

* DemonicSpiders: The enemy heavy submarines that fire two homing torpedoes at once. In normal mode they are manageable due to their rarity. In expert mode they are much more common and much more horrible because of it.

* ItsShortSoItSucks: The controls of the are weird and take some getting used to. The later missions can be brutal even when you do have them down, but the most common complaint is the length of mission mode, or lack their of. Most of it is padded by doing the same missions again with different submarines, doing them over to get enough decals for power ups and then doing them again in an "expert" mode. More mission variety would have been welcome. Many people do over look the eight time trials, which ''are'' distinct from the missions, but that's still only nine minutes added to the game play unless you decide to tackle them with each submarine too.
