* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** Some viewers criticized Finn and Rose's romance in ''Film/TheLastJedi'' for coming across as a case of StrangledByTheRedString, as they'd never met prior to that film, only knew each other for a few days at most, and Finn himself appears confused more than anything when Rose kisses and declares her love for him. In this novel, Finn mentions that he and Rose talked about the kiss, decided it didn't really mean anything and that they're BetterAsFriends.
** It's revealed that the First Order has been actively hunting down the Resistance's allies, which offers an alternate explanation as to why some of them didn't show up on Crait, besides just not caring or losing hope.

* HarsherInHindsight: Snap's reunion with his Nora and Wedge becomes this after ''Film/TheRiseOfSkywalker'', [[spoiler:as it's likely the last time they see each other. Not only does Snap die at the Battle of Exegol, he dies just before Wedge arrives with TheCavalry. Wedge survives the battle, but both he and Nora [[OutlivingOnesOffspring have outlived their own son]] (on top of the latter already losing her first husband to the Empire)]].

* HoYay: The lovingly detailed scene in which Finn can't tie his tie, so Poe does it for him, including smoothing the tie down before turning Finn so he can see himself in the mirror. Doesn't help that Finn makes it clear to Poe when he asks that he has no romantic interest in Rose or Rey, so he's very much single.

* UnintentionallySympathetic:
** Yama is only fifteen years old but she's still voluntarily serving a fascist organization that has invaded and conquered their world.
** Poe's statement they need to forgive ex-Imperials of their crimes by drawing a false equivalence to his mutiny rubbed a lot of readers the wrong way.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: The galaxy's full-on surrender to the First Order is meant to be disappointing but the ApatheticCitizens status of seemingly everyone makes them pass a MoralEventHorizon for most readers. Most don't seem remotely interested in putting up a fight against Space Nazis.

About fans or critics praising it such audiences don’t think it measures up. Pre-release expectations or marketing don’t count.

* HypeBacklash: Had a minor case of this. The novel was touted as being 'essential reading' and a "pivotal prequel" for ''Film/TheRiseOfSkywalker'', but a lot of people who read it subsequently complained that ''Resistance: Reborn'' doesn't really accomplish much important to the overarching plot of the Sequel Trilogy, focusing more on explaining what's going on in the wider galaxy regarding the New Republic etc. (which was largely unaddressed by ''Film/TheLastJedi'') and tying up loose ends with side characters from the Expanded Universe who probably won't be appearing in Episode 9. Some readers also didn't like the way some of the characters were handled, in particular criticizing the fact that [[TheHero Rey]] is pretty much DemotedToExtra. Overall, it's not viewed as a ''bad'' novel ''per se'', but some readers' consensus is that it feels like {{filler}} moreso than 'essential reading'.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Rey, despite being the main protagonist of the Sequel Trilogy and this being the first time she's actively involved with the Resistance in its entirety, doesn't really do much of importance in the novel and gets a ''lot'' less page-time compared to Poe and Finn.
