* SeinfeldIsUnfunny: The idea of taking a cast of lesser to unknown supporting characters and having them take over the main narrative of a show was far from a common practice at the time the show was made. Behind-the-scenes there was considerable debate over whose episode it was supposed to be, until Michael Pillar gave them the go-ahead make it primarily about the ensigns. Joret became a Starfleet spy in the hopes of preventing further conflict between Cardassia and the Federation. [[Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine A few years later]], Cardassia joins the Dominion and wages a catastrophic war that brings both sides to their knees anyway. By all appearances, Sito's death turned out to be AllForNothing.AllForNothing.
** Picard mentions in his speech to the crew how "[Sito's] loss will be deeply felt by all who knew her." As we later learn in ''[[WesternAnimation/StarTrekLowerDecks Lower Decks]]'', a certain someone will continue to be haunted by her death over a decade after the fact.
