* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: Lorca's line about Stamets being remembered alongside Elon Musk aged rather poorly. At the time he was mostly known for running [=SpaceX=] and Tesla, but only a few years later he largely destroyed his public reputation after buying Website/{{Twitter}} for $44 billion and spending the next year mismanaging it into losing well over half its valuation. Not YMMV.

* SeriesContinuityError: Shields in previous series were portrayed as preventing damage at full effectiveness and only mitigating most damage at reduced effectiveness respective of what percentage the shields were at (meaning much damage would occur to the ship if the shields' effectiveness were at 20 %, but not as much damage if the shields' effectiveness was at 80 %, for example). In this episode it seems implied that no damage to the colony (a shield effectiveness status showing 3 % for the colony, before the shields collapsed and further Klingon weapons fire actually damaged structures) nor to Discovery would occur unless subsequent hits occurred after shield collapse or if the shields were not activated.

* {{Narm}}: The painfully forced "Mommy, mommy, wake up, wake up!" from what's clearly an adult actress.

Broken Base is for ongoing long-term splits, not minor episode-specific disagreements.

* BrokenBase: Landry's death marks the second seemingly significant woman of color to be killed off in just the show's first few episodes, compounded by how contrived the scene is as she's determined to rush through the sedation process for no reason at all, coming off as TooDumbToLive, and how it just randomly happens in the middle of the episode with no one seeming to care ever again. Though others counter that the show having such an incredibly diverse cast in the first place makes this kind of thing more palatable.
