* AssPull: [[spoiler:Despite having foreshadowing within the intro, Penelope's reveal as Le Paradox's mole has nothing to really back it up otherwise. Her hatred of Sly and feelings of being held back by him come right out of nowhere, and she now seems insane enough that this was all she needed to make the decision to betray the team.]] To be fair, [[spoiler:when we met her in ''Sly 3'', she hosted a tournament where people kill each other in midair, and has been doing so for quite some time, and has no trouble disposing of her bribed guards -- by yanking them into the air and letting them fall to their bone-crushing deaths. She's second only to Murray and Panda King in overall destruction in 3. The hating Sly bit is definitely an AssPull though.]]

** The Thief costume gives Sly the ability to slow down time. This rather simplifies the treasure fetch quests, in which a treasure item must be returned to the Cooper Gang's hideout before a timer runs out. While it doesn't slow down the timer itself, everything else is affected.

** It can also be argued that Carmelita's increasingly Stripperiffic attire (not to mention her rather unfairly abusive attitude towards Sly) went ''very'' poorly received by other fans. Given the fact that she truly thought Sly had changed but then decides to go back to his thieving roots (albeit justified), could you blame her?
** Considering that ''she'' lied to ''him'' about being her partner, after he [[TakingTheBullet took a bullet]] for her? Never mind all the ''other'' times he stuck his neck out for her, regardless of how she treated him? [[UngratefulBitch Yes.]]

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Carmelita was [[{{TheScrappy}} very unlikeable]] in the third game for being [[{{JerkWithAHeartOfJerk}} cold and antagonistic]] to the Cooper Gang. In this game, she [[{{CharacterDevelopment}} warms up to them]] when she realizes that [[{{NotSoDifferent}} she and Sly both fight for justice, though on opposite sides of the law]].

** In a interview with Sly and Carmelita published in ''Magazine/DisneyAdventures'', Carmelita comments that if she got together with Sly she thinks he will steal a TV on their honeymoon out of instinct. A similar situation happens at the beginning of the game with Sly getting urges to steal after retiring with Carmelita.

* IHaveYouNowMyPretty: Le Paradox has shades of this when he kidnaps [[spoiler: Carmelita after the fight with Mz. Decibel.]] The way he runs his fingers along her body gloatingly is rather sickening to watch. [[spoiler: And then when you find Carmelita again, she's still tied to a chair, but wearing her normal clothing again. [[FridgeHorror How did that happen, exactly? What did Le Paradox DO to her...?]] ]]

** [[spoiler: Though she may have crossed it as early as her FaceHeelTurn, Penelope crosses this line for good for some fans when she steals Galleth's Cane. Her face says it all!]]

** Not to mention Carmelita being especially abrasive to Sly after how well they seemed to be doing at the end of ''Honor Among Thieves.'' Yes, Sly [[spoiler: faked amnesia,]] but still, for Carmelita to flagrantly disregard everything he'd ever done for her in the past--[[spoiler: right up till the very end, at least]]--is painful to watch.

** [[TheDragon Ms.]] [[MusicalAssassin Decibel]] is also surprisingly tough. Think Ms. Ruby with the rhythm segements replaced with NintendoHard platforming. She hits pretty hard in a straight fight too. Fitting, considering [[spoiler: she's the last "real" boss fight of the game.]]

** The archery shooting gallery. If your reflexes don't kill you, the small hitboxes of the targets will. Naturally this one ''also'' has a trophy for performing it perfectly, but in this case it's actually winning in the first place, not avoiding 'negative' targets, that's the hard part.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Dimitri is shown being given the Thievius Raccoonus and told to watch and guard it while Sly and the others go through time. You'd expect to see a mission showing him doing that, but instead he does nothing throughout the entire game. He doesn't even talk despite his voice actor appearing in the credits! With the way they hyped him learning Sly's moves in the trailer for the game this comes as a disappointment.
* TurnTheOtherCheek: Despite Carmelita being continuously abrasive towards him [[spoiler: for faking amnesia and returning to thievery despite having perfectly legitimate reasons to do so]], Sly continues to be nice (if a little teasingly flirty) towards her. And then, when [[spoiler: Carmelita gets kidnapped at the very end of the game, Sly willingly throws himself into an obvious trap to rescue her! Maybe now she FINALLY feels bad about the way that she's been treating him...]]

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Of all the ancestors from ''Thieves in Time'', Tennessee Kid seems to get the most love due to his Crackshot technique along with his improved rail-sliding ability.

* HilariousInHindsight: The title "Thieves in Time" was used in a [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgBxp7L14SU fan video]] long before the official game was announced.

* MoralEventHorizon: [[spoiler: Though she may have crossed it as early as her FaceHeelTurn, Penelope crosses this line for good for some fans when she steals Galleth's Cane. Her face says it all!]]

* PlayerPunch: [[spoiler:Bentley finding out that Penelope had pulled a FaceHeelTurn will be sure to make you feel sorry for him, especially since her vanishing is the big kickoff in the storyline.]]

** Of course, she's completely nasty towards Sly for most of the game. Yes, he faked amnesia, but ''she'' lied to ''him'' about being her partner, just to have him ''her'' way! Considering everything that Sly has done for her in the past, and that she didn't really soften up much towards him till the very ''end'' of the game--and we only got a ''fleeting'' example of this--it's easy to argue that Carmelita is still pretty much TheScrappy. And no one ''ever'' calls her out on it, either!

* TurnTheOtherCheek: Despite Carmelita being continuously abrasive towards him [[spoiler: for faking amnesia and returning to thievery despite having perfectly legitimate reasons to do so]], Sly continues to be nice (if a little teasingly flirty) towards her. And then, when [[spoiler: Carmelita gets kidnapped at the very end of the game, Sly willingly throws himself into an obvious trap to rescue her! Maybe now she FINALLY feels bad about the way that she's been treating him...]]
