* BizarroEpisode: Um... although hilarious, this episode has literally nothing to do with... much of anything in the rest of the show. The actual state finals are never shown, either.
** The only possibility is that it was setting up the idea that more mystery solving groups exist like Mystery Incorporated, especially the ones that become ''very'' important later.
* BrokenBase: Initial reactions to this episode seem to be that it was a {{filler}}, but later reception seems to hold this episode highly for its crossover with other Hanna-Barbera properties.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: The existence of other Hanna-Barbera shows in the ''Mystery Incorporated'' universe is not brought up again and they're {{handwave}}d as being fictional in-universe. Made even worse as time went on to reveal that this series provided an in-universe reason for YouMeddlingKids groups to be formed but then wrote itself in a way that nearly all the other HB and RS groups couldn't be written into the plot. Making this one instance the series could have endeared itself to older fans ended up feeling like they were let down. That said, ''WesternAnimation/DynomuttDogWonder'' [[WesternAnimation/MobyDickHannaBarbera Moby Dick]] and ''WesternAnimation/JonnyQuest'' would end up being incorporated into later episodes though some would say only even further off the mark than this episode.

Dewicking as Static Character is now Definition Only.

** The use of the other Scooby Doo equivalent leads only to handwave them into just being fictional and not regular in-universe citizens of Crystal Cove is seen as a let down. Let alone to those who felt the entire idea of calling them sidekicks who couldn't save their own meddling kids easily was an insult and waste of their characters in the first place.
** None of the other mystery-solvers besides their "sidekicks" do anything besides be in danger, making them {{Static Character}}s.
