** Episode 4 has Tae Takemi, upon introduction, immediately offer Ren some of her experimental drugs, in front of ''Sojiro'' no less. In the games, Takemi only reluctantly takes on Ren as a test subject for her drugs, and it was only after grilling him on what his motives actually were. The abruptness here was so OutOfCharacter that it was hilarious.

While some fans see it as a necessary and welcome change from the game, introducing such an important and pivotal character early on, other see him very much as the SpotlightStealingSquad. The Persona 3 movies were technically the last anime adaptation of a Persona game.

** The director mentioned in an interview with the magazine ''PASH!'' that Akechi will be receiving more screen time in the series, as well as FanService for all the characters. ** In episode 1, Kawakami drops a flyer for her maid services during Ren and Sojiro's first visit to Shujin Academy. Nobody comments on it and all that happens is Ren giving a mildly confused look as Kawakami hastily picks it back up. It was supposed to be some {{Foreshadowing}} to Kawakami moonlighting as a maid, but the execution is unintentionally funny for just how nobody bats an eye over it.

This explanation only covers the part of the fandom that hates Ren, and not anything about the side that supports Ren being a Shrinking Violet. Moved this entry to The Scrappy. If someone plans to edit this entry to its original position, then explain what the part of the fandom that supports Ren thinks.

The anime just came out so it needs to go through a waiting period.

* BrokenBase: The first episode alone has already inspired this due to how quickly it goes through the beginning parts of the game just to end on Arsene's Awakening. There are some that are okay with this, understanding that the anime has a lot to get through and that some things would need to be rushed past or condensed down to fit into 24 episodes, and that the opening of the game was already fairly long as it was. And then there are some that think this would be an indicator of how quickly the rest of the anime will go by, and that everything will be poorly paced.
