* AdaptationDisplacement: This is one of many films from The80s that's actually based off of a "komiks" serial in the drama genre (think Film/BituingWalangNingning), but it's not as well remembered compared to its contemporaries (which TheOtherWiki even fails to mention). People mainly remember it as a movie.

* AlasPoorScrappy: Lani is a whiny brat and Gillian beating her in the shower was quite extreme. Not that she didn't deserve it though, but it's evident that this is the first time she's had somebody's hand laid upon her judging how she recoiled in total fear. It doesn't stop Gillian's moment of awesome however.

** Admit it,
Gillian beating the everloving daylights out of her in the shower was quite extreme. Not that she didn't deserve it though, but it's evident that this bratty sister Lani is the first time immensely satisfying, especially with how shrill she's had somebody's hand laid upon been throughout the whole film.
** Short-lived, but [[spoiler:Rose slapping Patria across the face and immediately calling
her judging how she recoiled in total fear. It doesn't stop Gillian's moment of awesome however.out for abusing Gillian, whom she's now aware was her (Rose's) daughter all along.]]

Added DiffLines:

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Jerkass woobies they may be, Patria's and Bernardo's physical abuse of Gillian is hard to look over, so during moments where they are supposed to be conflicted characters, it's very difficult to pity them.

* FridgeLogic: The fact that the Velasco's do not sense anything amiss about their son possibly not being theirs since Andrew looked like neither of them. WillingSuspensionOfDisbelief is at play here since none of their offspring resemble either parents due to the actors playing them, which they can't help.

* JerkassWoobie: Patria. The woman beats the girl mercilessly and has a big mouth but her anger is somewhat justified due to her husband's absurd plan for their son to have a chance of a better future under the care of the Velasco's. She clearly has a lot of deep-seated problems and wants nothing but to have her son back. She had to stomach those feelings for twenty years.

* SpecialEffectFailure: The birthmark on both Bernardo and Andrew's feet (which shows that they are undeniably related) failed to look convincing. It looks as if they just stepped on a patch of grease and didn't bother to clean their feet.

* ValuesDissonance: There were a lot of Filipino films back in the day that starred a female character in which at the end of the movie, she is shown getting married to her potential love interestnot that this only happened in the Philippines, mind you as for some countries, feminism was still a new thing back in the 80s. Oh and there's also the Disney Princess movies, especially from the Golden Age and Renaissance. and that is mostly labeled as the quintessential happy ending especially if she was miserable during the entire movie's run. Amidst changing attitudes towards women in general, this firmly puts the movie in its time setting. Nowadays, when this happens in movies (in which the BigDamnKiss is used in lieu of the instant wedding), it's usually setting up for a homage, some sort of subversion, or parody.
