* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: In The Book of Ti'ana it's extremely easy to read Veovis's incredibly close friendship with Aitrus as his being in love with Aitrus and his actions within after said friendship turns septic over Anna/Ti'ana as an extremely dramatic act of IfICantHaveYou rather than straight FantasticRacism. Note that Veovis is actually quite friendly with Ti'ana and complementary of her intellect and curiosity and his racism is of the paternalistic kind, right up until the exact moment that Aitrus confides in him that he's in love with her and plans to marry her, after which Veovis's overweening hatred of her drives him into the arms of the terrorist conspiracy. Through this lens, his death in his old friend's arms isn't just his RedemptionEqualsDeath moment, but his HeelRealization, reconciling himself to Aitrus's IncompatibleOrientation and recognizing that Ti'ana was never the problem, that he should have been happy with Aitrus's platonic love rather than jealously and enviously feeling entitled to his romantic love until it cost him everything.

*CompleteMonster: The Book of Ti'ana novel: A'gaeris is a master manipulator, bitter over his expulsion from the Guild of Writers for allegedly stealing a book. He turns that resentment into action when he frames Veovis, an innocent man, for murder and then convinces him to turn against the D'ni empire. Together, they commit terrorist acts, culminating in the release of a plague that kills nearly a million people. But even that was not enough to satisfy A'gaeris's lust for revenge, so he and Veovis sent corpses through to other Ages to ensure that any refugees would also be infected. A'gaeris ordered Veovis to write an Age where they could rule over the native population. Veovis refused, and A'gaeris promptly murdered him in cold blood.
