** Additionally, his story is one where he is nearly fated to live out, the only glimmers of hope being Radiant Hope and Princess Amore's suggestion he could be good instead of evil, making Sombra TheWoobie for the issue.

* {{Narm}}: In the Tirek comic, he says twice in the span of as-many pages that Scorpan is entirely loyal and would never betray him. It was possibly intended as funny, but comes off as forced and awkward.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: The Siren comic. Instead of an interesting backstory we have: the characters engaged in a AmericanIdol contest (in Ancient Equestria!), the Dazzling as bland characters without the chemistria that distinguishes them in Rainbow Rocks and the their banishment unjustified.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids: Arguably nothing in the comic is any darker than some Disney films like ''Film/BeautyAndTheBeast'' or ''Film/TheLittleMermaid'', but some of the imagery and tones of the comic are rather scary and frightening for younger readers.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: The Siren comic. Instead of an actual backstory it becomes an ''American Idol'' parody (in Ancient Equestria, somehow) and becomes a BattleOfTheBands with Star Swirl. The Sirens themselves also lack any of the chemistry with each other that made them interesting backstory we have: the characters engaged in a AmericanIdol contest (in Ancient Equestria!), the Dazzling as bland characters without the chemistria that distinguishes them in Rainbow Rocks ''Rainbow Rocks'', and the their banishment unjustified.
comes off as unneeded due to how they were portraited.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids: Arguably nothing The King Sombra comic ''really'' doesn't seem like something you'd find from ''My Little Pony''. Nothing in the comic is any darker than some Disney films like ''Film/BeautyAndTheBeast'' or ''Film/TheLittleMermaid'', but some of the imagery and tones of the comic are rather scary and frightening for younger readers.

* DracoInLeatherPants: The Sirens (again). The way the issue is told, they don't come off as much as a threat as the legends told in ''Rainbow Rocks'' implied. Particularly, their singing doesn't cause any trouble, it makes people adore them and they're implied to do what they do as a way to seek fame and adoration. Enter Star Swirl who, after repeatedly failing to best them in music to stop their spells, just banishes them to another world to get rid of them. Some fans go so far as to say ''Star Swirl'' is the villain of the comic, and the Sirens were victimized and DrivenToVillainy after their banishment.

* FirstInstallmentWins: While the second and third issues have divided the fanbase on if they're good or not, Sombra's issue is not only agreed to be excellent by most, but is considered better than either of the two issues following.

** After getting more interesting backstories for Sombra and Tirek that gave them varying levels of sympathy, the Sirens are shown to just be pure evil from the start despite a lot of potential with their differing personalities and vague history from ''Rainbow Rocks''. Plus, it's more joke-heavy than the first two issues, diluting the series' DarkerAndEdgier draw.

** Related to the above, but consider that Sombra acts a lot more animalistic in the Season 3 premiere than he is portrayed here even after fully completes his FaceHeelTurn. Those 1,000 not only made him stronger but eroded his mind even further, turning him into a mere shadow of his former self.

* FridgeHorror: Sombra's smoke form's always big, but it's initially only eye-level with tall bipeds like Discord and Iron Will.
