* GeniusBonus: Likely as a result of being adapted from a folktale, the story makes a number of references to very specific aspects of Mexican folklore, such as Satan taking on the guise of ''El Charro Negro'', a legendary sinister horseman believed to be an avatar of the Devil, and the way Death produces a spring that emerges at his feet out in the mountains with water which is able to miraculously heal the deathly ill echoes the most famous account of the Marian apparition that gave rise to the overwhelming Mexican faith in the ''Virgen de Guadalupe''.
