** Maisie [[spoiler:freeing the dinosaurs to save their lives]] has caused some critics to paint her as a completely sociopathic individual or the ''true'' villain of the movie. While there's no denying she made a questionable choice that put countless lives in danger and displaced many invasive species onto an unprepared ecosystem, she didn't do it with any ''malicious'' intent, but out of a genuine, albeit impulsive, desire to [[spoiler:save those she sympathized with from an unpleasant demise]]. * TheScrappy: Franklin gets a lot of hate for being a walking nerd stereotype who does nothing but complain and whine during 90% of his screen time, as well as for being comic relief in a movie that honestly didn't need any. The fact that he does nothing of importance other than take out Wu, which could be just as easily accomplished if Zia had released Blue a few seconds earlier, doesn't do him any favors. Granted, Zia was handcuffed by Wu to Blue's cage at the moment, meaning any wrong movement could have resulted in her undoing.

** Claire and Owen going back to the island to free the dinosaurs, which helps result in them escaping, makes some see them as partially culpable for the several deaths that ensue, similar to Dr. Malcom's group in [[Film/JurassicParkTheLostWorld ''The Lost World'']]. But while one can debate the ethics of humans risking their lives for dinosaurs, and Claire could probably have done more to figure out if Eli was telling the truth, everyone who went on the mission to Isla Nublar volunteered to go, knowing the risks (at least intelectually), unlike Dr. Malcolm, who was essentially blackmailed into going to the island by his girlfriend having already gone, or his daughter who snuck onto the mission. Mills told them they were simply moving the dinosaurs from one island to another, with no evident potential for civilian casualties even if something did go wrong.

The dinosaurs in particular have never looked better. The CG quality is a big upgrade from the previous movie, and the animatronics don’t look too shabby either. The volcano eruption on Isla Nublar deserves special mention for its effects.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** The sequel features extensive practical effects and animatronics work and teasers and trailers have highlighted [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxNDtTVTlnQ behind-the-scenes footage]] to make a point of this. This is very likely a response to the debate caused by the extensive use of CGI in the first ''Film/JurassicWorld''.
--->'''Chris Pratt:''' In this movie we are dealing with ''real'' animatronic dinosaurs.
** Bryce Dallas Howard wasted no time assuring the fans she'd be wearing sensible shoes in this one. The camera even focuses on her feet for a moment to show that she's wearing a good pair of boots.
** Claire also has a more ActionGirl appropriate hairstyle, as her hairdo from the first ''Jurassic World'' was frequently mocked by fans and compared to Dora the Explorer. Her characterization is also improved for those who believed [[UnintentionallySympathetic that she was treated as cold and harsh]] [[NotWantingKidsIsWeird for not having children]]. Her true CharacterDevelopment from the first movie is showcased, she still has no kids, she is still a career woman, ''and'' she has a more warm and caring side to her in this film, meaning her development was not about having kids but just being a warmer person generally.
** The previous film was criticized for barely featuring Rexy's iconic roar, especially regarding the ending shot of the film. The marketing for the film made it very clear from the get-go that the classic roar would be used far more liberally in this film... [[NeverTrustATrailer Except this wasn't exactly the case in the end.]]
** Many fans found it implausible that the ''Mosasaurus'' somehow managed to survive the three year TimeSkip without being regularly fed by humans. Trevorrow later [[https://screenrant.com/jurassic-world-2-fallen-kingdom-timeline-opening-scene/ confirmed]] that the film’s opening, depicting its escape from the lagoon, takes place very shortly after the end of ''Jurassic World'', not the entire three years. The third season of [[WesternAnimation/JurassicWorldCampCretaceous Camp Cretaceous]] also confirms that the opening of Fallen Kingdom takes place six months after Jurassic World.
** It was confirmed in the film [[spoiler:that Hammond's actions in the ''Film/TheLostWorldJurassicPark'' were born from learning that his colleague, Lockwood, was planning to use the cloning technology to bring back his daughter, making the former less of a DesignatedHero and more of a WellIntentionedExtremist.]]
** The ''Indominus rex'' was criticized for looking like a "generic theropod", with no unique features aside from being nastier and spikier-looking and being an albino. While many were concerned that the ''Indoraptor'' was just going to be a rehash of the same thing, he's shown to be a very different beast in the film, and his semi-quadrupedal posture, creepily-long neck, and somewhat snake-like head give him a very distinctive silhouette, with a dashing black-and-gold color scheme to boot.
** One of the complaints from the novels was that the idea of dinosaurs escaping onto the mainland always became an AbortedArc when the story shifted to Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna. Here, [[spoiler:with the massive stampede at the end, along with Isla Nublar being destroyed and Isla Sorna confirmed as being depopulated, dinosaurs on the mainland is now the ''only'' way the story can go]].
** ''Jurassic World'' took some criticism for its protracted death of Zara (whose cardinal sin as a character seemed to be an absent-minded babysitter at worst) but its BigBad killed in a quick GoryDiscretionShot. In ''Fallen Kingdom'', [[spoiler: both of the top villains, Mills and Wheatley, get put through slow, terrible dino deaths]].

* IdiotPlot:
** The entire story relies on Claire spontaneously trusting a sudden business partner for [=InGen=] in wanting to "rescue" the dinosaurs with no profit incentive, despite the fact [=InGen=] has repeatedly shown extremely underhanded and morally corrupt decisions for profit in previous movies. Sure enough, she's being used, and is left to die on the island while the dinosaurs are captured to be sold on the black market.
** The mercenaries leaving the protagonists to die on Isla Nublar in the volcanic eruption instead of [[WhyDontYouJustShootHim just shooting them]] and being done with it. It's not like there would be any evidence of their deaths either way. Instead, they merely gloat about how everyone will think their deaths were incidental and let them walk free, allowing them to sneak aboard the escape boat and make it back alive.
** The second half of the film could've easily been avoided if Lockwood had simply called the police once he was informed about his assistant undermining his decisions and selling the dinosaurs on the black market. Instead, he calls Mills up to his room, alone, and demands he call the police and turn himself in. [[spoiler:Mills has nothing to gain and everything to lose if he turns himself in, so instead, with no witnesses around, he kills the feeble and elderly Lockwood.]]
** Had the U.S. Senate agreed to save the dinosaurs on Isla Nublar and transport them to another island as Claire and the DPG intended, then Mills and his goons would have not been able to steal them and bring them to the mainland in the first place. In other terms, their inaction and choice to ignore the dinosaurs plight ultimately allowed someone else with nefarious intentions to steal them and cause an ''ecological disaster''.

* UnintentionallySympathetic: The ''Indoraptor'' is more of a TragicMonster that got to enjoy at most a couple hours of freedom before meeting its end impaled on a fossil triceratops skull, after spending it’s entire life in a tiny cage without being tortured and abused to make it an effective AttackAnimal and suffering from several genetic disorders that caused its scales to flake off and respiratory problems.
