That's more than a little obsessed with her as well as his lack of personal space towards her.

** Kalique disrobes in front of Jupiter, looks at her seductively, and then rises from her bath with a glamorous young body in one of the only nude scenes in the movie.

** As this is a Channing Tatum movie, there's a bit of it between Caine and Stinger. Their fight when they're reunited is not unlike that of a SlapSlapKiss couple. Stinger is the one person Caine trusts above everyone else and Caine regards Stinger being stripped of his rank as MyGreatestFailure.

** It’s [[SoOkayItsAverage a fairly decent]] sci-fi flick with social satire, fairly unique concepts and ideas, interesting WorldBuilding created with the liberal usage of {{Noodle Incident}} s and {{Cryptic Background Reference}}s, a wide variety of alien species, cool action sequences, and good-looking special effects and set pieces that was just a couple of rewrites away from reaching its full potential.

** When Caine seriously and heartfelt-ly tells Jupiter that he has more in common with a dog than he does with her, to explain why they can't be a couple. And instead of telling him that she doesn't care about things like that, or that being a genetic hybrid doesn't make him inferior no matter what people say … she says she ''loves dogs''. It's so offbeat and out of place that it's hilarious, especially given her equally serious delivery. After Caine leaves moments later, Jupiter winces and repeats it to herself, lampshading just how awkward the line was.

* SoBadItsGood: The Wachowski siblings ''wanted'' to make a grand space opera on the level of ''Film/StarWars'', with laser dogfights in UsefulNotes/{{Chicago}} and a RagsToRiches heroine taking down the evils of space capitalism. Instead, they made [[http://bonesmakenoise.tumblr.com/post/110389313528 a movie populated by shitty DeviantArt OCs]] in which bees recognize space royalty, plot threads dangle like fringe on '70s leather jackets, and a fallen-angel werewolf fights with rocket skates. Best watched with funny friends in all its trashy glory.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: There are a lot of interesting side characters that deserved far more screen time, including Kalique (for her cunning), the bounty hunters (just to know their backstory), and Jupiter's family.

** Rather than hamming it up like the actors playing the villains, Mila Kunis commits to the material to make herself entirely believable as the OnlySaneMan swept into all the wackiness. One very genuine scene in the film has [[spoiler: Titus revealing that humans are being harvested to preserve their youth]]. Mila's performance is shockingly good there, and probably would have been better had the story been more coherent.
** Channing Tatum also imbues Caine with a lot of personality and genuine emotion. He delivers the "I have more in common with a dog than I have with you" line with a kind of hopeless bitterness that turns him into a StoicWoobie of sorts.

* HoYay: Jupiter doesn’t seem to have a problem with Katherine walking around in her underwear right in front of her, or Kalique stripping naked and bathing in front of her there.

The opening narration states that Aleksa became bitter and cynical after her husband was murdered, implying that Jupiter grew up distant from her. Mother and daughter learning to reconnect through the events of the film could have made a good plot. Instead Aleksa is barely featured.

** The hunters chasing Caine and Jupiter around Chicago has some truly stunning cinematography. Some of the shots were pulled off by having helicopters fly around the city, catching as many possible angles as they could.
* WTHCastingAgency: Mila Kunis as the HollywoodHomely Jupiter. While a couple of other characters comment on Jupiter's attractiveness, it's a bit of a stretch to believe that she would be stuck cleaning houses. WordOfGod is that she's too lazy to find anything better.

** It’s [[DarthWiki/SoBadItsHorrible a just plain bad movie]] that rips off almost every sci-fi film before it, takes itself too seriously in spite of its ridiculous premise, introduces loads of characters and plot points but never bothers to develop them properly, unwisely centers its story on a dull, chemistry-less WishFulfillment love story that seems like it came from a bad fanfic, and overall was not worth making and is just a chore to watch.

Titus is TheCasanova whose defining scene is a ZeroGSpot pseudo-orgy of heavy petting. He plans to secure his claim to Earth by marrying Jupiter, and all that implies.
** Balem's main goal is to kill Jupiter to retain his claim to Earth. * HollywoodHomely: One of the complaints of the film is that Creator/MilaKunis looks "too sexy" to play Jupiter, when she's supposed to be a plain looking girl and that another, more plain actress would have worked better. Especially since it becomes ''extremely'' difficult to believe that a woman as attractive as her would be limited to working as a janitor.

* WhatTheHellCastingAgency: Creator/MilaKunis as the supposedly normal and homely Jupiter. While Jupiter's attractiveness is never commented on, it's a bit of a stretch to believe that she would be stuck cleaning houses. WordOfGod is that she's too lazy to find anything better.

* TheUntwist: [[spoiler: Balem being revealed as his mother's murderer is so obvious that it's surprising it was kept as TheReveal]].

* PinBallProtagonist: A major criticism of the film is that Jupiter is far too passive in her story. The plot mostly happens ''at'' her and she has very little agency in her own story. She's dragged from plot point to plot point without actually doing anything herself. The first thing she properly does is [[spoiler: marrying Titus to get pardons for Stinger and Caine]], which is over an hour into the movie.

* WhatTheHellCastingAgency: Creator/MilaKunis as the supposedly normal and homely Jupiter.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotPolitical: A powerful political/capitalist entity holds countless lives as chattel so as to provide society with an essential resource. Attempts to synthesize this resource and forgo the expenditure of lives have failed for some vague reason. Are we talking about [[spoiler:Recode, the GreenRocks used to extend lifespan and engineer Splices, or petroleum, which powers every element of the world from personal vehicles to ocean and air transport, both of which require ruling producing territories without regard for the people who live there?]]

* BaseBreaker:

** Kalique strips naked in front of Jupiter, looks at her seductively, and then rises from her bath with a glamorous young body (in one of the only nude scenes in the movie.

** The romantic thread in general gets a little icky. Jupiter tries to come onto Caine with the phrase [[BestialityIsDepraved "I like dogs!"]].

* CriticalResearchFailure: At one point Jupiter uses a maxi pad as a makeshift band-aid for Caine's wound. That in and of itself is not a bad idea. Problem is, she applies ''the sticky side'' to the wound, not the other side actually designed for absorbing blood. One would think her actress Creator/MilaKunis would know herself which side does which.

* FoeYay: Kalique compliments on Caine's, ahem, physique, when he barges into her palace with no shirt on.
** Titus spends a good chunk of the movie trying to seduce [[OedipusComplex Jupiter]], and the scene before he [[spoiler: tries to kill Caine]] reeks of HoYay, complete with whispering his evil plan in Caine's ear while circling around him. Famulus has a bit of this while gloating over Caine, while Balem seems to be a ''too'' [[OedipusComplex obsessed with Jupiter]], and Kalique [[LesYay strips naked in front of Jupiter, looks at her seductively, then rises from her bath with a glamorous young body (in one of the only nude scenes in the movie)]].

* VisualEffectsOfAwesome: In an interview after production wrapped up, Lana mentioned that the effects in ''Jupiter'' were much more complex than the stuff that was in ''Film/CloudAtlas''. They spent a lot of time and energy creating a unique feel for every set, from the claustrophobic and crowded Orous to the ostentatiousness of Titus' ship.
