* OneSceneWonder: The scariest part of the movie by many is thought to be the Entity's invasion of Jay's house, where it first takes the tall form. Said form is played by Mike Lanier, in his only acting role, as he passed away in 2018.

This is merely guess work, and the film is very blatant that it a Psychosexual Horror

** If you go with the interpretation that the film isn't actually about [=STDs=] and is more about maturity and accepting the inevitability of death, one can interpret the ending as Jay and Paul finally coming to an acceptance of their mortality. They will, eventually, die, but in the meantime, they have each other. They are no longer running from It - It being death - but choose to live in spite of its presence.

I'm pretty sure whoever wrote this misremembered the movie. Greg gives Hugh what for even if Greg's concerns for Jay is slightly questionable, and Jay pointedly refuses to directly look at Hugh.

* AngstWhatAngst:
** While Jay's assault by Hugh is presented as graphic and very terrifying, she is surprisingly civil to him when she meets him, and none of her friends actually say anything even slightly rude to him, even after he drugged, kidnapped, and tied up Jay.
** None of the group seem particularly upset after (aside from Jay's horror and anguish when she witnesses it happen), and he is barely mentioned afterwards, aside from Jay and Paul discussing the matter (where Paul even tries to make the situation about himself, asking Jay why she chose Greg in the most scorned tone possible), followed by Jay glancing out of the window at a police car . Nor is there ever word of a funeral. This could be justified, though, as the audience never gets to see the others find out about the incident on-screen.

angst…? over someone crashing your car…?

** Nor do we ever see Jay apologizing to Greg or Greg's family for crashing his car.

"What an Idiot!" is now Flame Bait.

* EsotericHappyEnding: While the ending has all the hallmarks of being a DownerEnding, the tone at the end is possibly more positive or at least more bittersweet than that, as Jay and Paul are together and both seem much more serene than they have for the entire movie.

* WhatAnIdiot: "It" is supposedly pretty smart, but when it gets the drop on Jay at the beach by posing as Yara, all "It" does is pull her hair instead of just killing her on the spot, despite that being "It"'s entire purpose.
** But the film is replete with UnreliableNarrator. We don't know if any character really understands or is being honest. The most direct explanation of the events seems to be that it's a physical manifestation of the thoughts of the "infected", like in Forbidden Planet. That's (roughly) why it makes sense Jay isn't taken out when she's hospitalized and completely vulnerable.

** The horror of Anne's situation in the opening is cheapened somewhat by the fact that she chose to run away in some very high heels. Even if it can be justified by saying she put on the first shoes she found, one can't help but think it would work much better if she had on no shoes at all. Of course, considering that Jay spends most of the film barefoot, this might actually be foreshadowing.

* InferredHolocaust: Jay, Greg, and Paul (especially the former two) have multiple opportunities where they seem like they're about to pass on It -- Jay, to the guys on the boat; Greg, to the girls at school; Paul, to the prostitutes. It's never made clear if they do or not, but at least in Jay and Greg's cases, it would explain why It is confirmed to leave them alone for a little while before coming back to them. But there's also no indication, if they did pass it on, if they bothered to even try and explain to pass It on.
