* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: [[http://www.aycyas.com/IAKWYDLS.htm Liz Kingsley's]] review brings up several positives the movie has over the first two, in particular that the four leads are actually less culpable in PJ's death that he himself was and that their real crime was to let the police and Sheriff Davis waste a year searching for a nonexistant killer, which in turn leads to a good selection of RedHerring suspects. As such, [[spoiler:the reintroduction of Ben Willis can seem like a letdown in comparison, especially since the now-supernatural Ben doesn't do anything more impossible than he did when he was alive. Liz also argues that Sheriff Davis, the one innocent party in this mess, should have been the one to take out Ben, but instead gets pointlessly murdered.]]

* AssPull: [[spoiler:The other films never had supernatural elements, so the Fisherman being Ben Willis' ghost (and his weakness being his own hook) instead of a copycat killer fells completely random and out-of-place.]]

* VisualEffectsOfAwesome: The main saving grace of the film is its' practical effects, as pointed out by [[WebVideo/DeadMeat James A. Janisse]] in his killcount video.

* FanonDiscontinuity: Many fans ignore this film in the series for having no connection to the previous two movies, it's been also criticized for it's writing, acting and characters, and there's TheReveal that [[spoiler:Ben Willis is now a ghost/zombie]].
* MemeticMutation: All together now: "[[spoiler:'''''[[WebVideo/{{Phelous}} A ZOMBIE FISHERMAN?!]]''''']]"

* ItsTheSameNowItSucks: One problem fans have with this sequel is its many similarities to the [[Film/IKnowWhatYouDidLastSummer first film]], and even the main characters fells like SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitutes to the cast of that film.
* MemeticMutation: All together now: "[[spoiler:'''''[[WebVideo/{{Phelous}} A ZOMBIE FISHERMAN?!]]''''']]"FISHERMAN?!]]''''']]"
* {{Sequelitis}}: ''I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer'' scored an infamous 0% on Website/RottenTomatoes, and most viewers agree that it's the worst film of the trilogy.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: P.J. Davis. [[spoiler:The film would be much more interesting if he were the killer instead of an undead Ben Willis, who has no direct relation or grudge against the main characters.]]
