** Chapter 23 of ''Watchmeh'' is named "House of Cards", after [[Series/HouseOfCardsUS the series of the same name]]. At the time, it was just an amusing reference. However, around the time the chapter was posted, the first sexual assault allegations against [[Creator/KevinSpacey its star]] were made.
** The ButtMonkey status of the Bus Driver in the original arc is officially this as of [=HU9=], where [[spoiler:he reveals that this treatment ruined his life and was what led to him seeking revenge on E350 in the first place.]]

* ContinuityLockout: The series generally assumes that the reader is familiar with all of the works involved in it, leading to references that only make sense if you happen to know the works involved (which range from various animated shows to games like ''Franchise/MassEffect'' and ''VideoGame/LANoire'').

Come ''WesternAnimation/TheOwlHouse'', it's revealed that main villain Emperor Belos [[spoiler:is a witch hunter who wants to wipe out the Boiling Isles simply because they use magic, in spite of the fact that not all of them are villains.]] Building on this, he reveals that [[spoiler:he actually wants to be called a Witch-''Hunter'' General.]]

* CrazyAwesome:

** In the first chapter of the first collection, Danny, Sam, and Tucker express their belief that E350 is going to fail to complete his self-imposed Halloween challenge. Considering that there's (as of this writing) nine collections in the ''Halloween Unspectacular'' series so far, this comes off as extra hilarious.

* HarsherInHindsight: The ending of the seventh collection, [[spoiler:where TheBadGuyWins, a number of heroes are dead as a result, and there's only one ray of hope to break up the DownerEnding]], feels eerily similar to the ending of ''Film/AvengersInfinityWar'', which came out several months later.

* HilariousInHindsight: One of the "Twenty Terrible Theories" in [=HU6=] is that [[spoiler: [[WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse Rose Quartz was Pink Diamond]]]], with E350 being exasperated by it. Two years later, this theory was confirmed by canon.

* CompleteMonster: General Rausseman, the BigBad of the PURITY MythArc. He's a [[ThoseWackyNazis Nazi]] who believes that anyone with superpowers/who isn't human should be [[FantasticRacism wiped off the face of the Earth]], and he's not above having [[WouldHurtAChild innocent children]] murdered in order to achieve this. Made even worse by the fact that [[spoiler: he pretty much ''[[TheBadGuyWins wins]]'' at the end of [=HU7=]]], and that, unlike a number of other Nazi characters E350 has used, is played quite seriously.
** [=ReGenesis=] can be seen as this, wanting nothing more than [[OmnicidalManiac the destruction of every living thing on Earth]]. [[spoiler: Goes into WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds territory when we learn his true identity.]]
