YMMV / Halloween Unspectacular

  • Angst? What Angst?: At the end of the PURITY arc, Tambry doesn't seem to care about the fact that she nearly died and was only saved in exchange for becoming a backup herald for Galactus, though it's Played for Laughs.
  • Anti-Climax Boss: While his allies are taken out in a big fight at the climax of HU10, the Bus Driver gets his final gambit swiftly shot down by E350, and then he's talked into giving up.
  • Anvilicious:
    • Any story that centers on nukes tends to be this, as lampshaded by the author.
    • The PURITY storyline is not subtle with its references to real-world politics, with President Fulton serving as a thinly-veiled parody of Donald Trump.
  • Continuity Lockout: The series generally assumes that the reader is familiar with all of the works involved in it, leading to references that only make sense if you happen to know the works involved (which range from various animated shows to games like Mass Effect and L.A. Noire). The final Myth Arc also makes numerous references to both the last two myth arcs and numerous other stories in the series, requiring you to be caught up on all of them to get the most out of it.
  • Crazy Is Cool:
    • The Fiddley Thing can warp reality at the push of a button, generally causing it to become this depending on the user.
    • Its creator, Dr. Insano, also manages to be this on occasion.
  • Crossover Ship: Timmy x Dani pops up on occasion in these stories.
  • Genius Bonus: E350 is a history buff, and it shows.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • The ending of the seventh collection, where The Bad Guy Wins, a number of heroes are dead as a result, and there's only one ray of hope to break up the Downer Ending, feels eerily similar to the ending of Avengers: Infinity War, which came out several months later.
    • Chapter 23 of Watchmeh is named "House of Cards", after the series of the same name. At the time, it was just an amusing reference. However, around the time the chapter was posted, the first sexual assault allegations against its star were made.
    • The Butt-Monkey status of the Bus Driver in the original arc is officially this as of HU9, where he reveals that this treatment ruined his life and was what led to him seeking revenge on E350 in the first place.
  • Heartwarming Moments: During the Final Battle of HU10, E350 has avatars of two of his online friends/frequent reviewers show up as part of the Gondor Calls for Aid moment, while it's mentioned that two others put together a legal team for him after the climax of HU9. Combined with this, he outright thanks them all in the final author's note for sticking with the series for so many years.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • One of the "Twenty Terrible Theories" in HU6 is that Rose Quartz was Pink Diamond, with E350 being exasperated by it. Two years later, this theory was confirmed by canon.
    • In the first chapter of the first collection, Danny, Sam, and Tucker express their belief that E350 is going to fail to complete his self-imposed Halloween challenge. Considering that there ended up being ten collections in the Halloween Unspectacular series, this comes off as extra hilarious.
    • The main villains of HU3 are the Witchfinder-Generals, who are shown to go after any magic, regardless of the harm destroying it will cause. E350 would later start writing fics for The Owl House, which revealed that main villain Emperor Belos is a witch hunter who wants to wipe out the Boiling Isles simply because they use magic, regardless of the harm it would cause. Building on this, he reveals that he actually wants to be called a Witch-Hunter General.
