** During his final special, he remarks on rights that “all we’ve ever had in [The U.S.] is a list of temporary privileges, and if you read the news, even badly, you know that every year the list gets shorter and shorter.” These remarks have made the rounds online following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and the immediate banning of abortion in much of the country.

However, these people forget that what he was talking about were a mix of needless censorship of more adult language on TV started in the 70s (see his "7 words you can't say on TV" rant from the 70s) and that racial slurs shouldn't be allowed to have as much power as they do and you should really evaluate a person's character, and how they use said slurs to deem them a racist if they use them. However, his daughter has also pointed out that he wouldn't stand for what these people want and it's clear that they completely missed the point of his arguments. He wanted to be able to say words he saw as ultimately harmless on TV and take the power out of racial slurs while ''they'' wanna be able to say whatever they want no matter what, regardless of intent and without impediment or criticisms (mainly hate speech), completely ignoring the intent of why he said those things.
