Added DiffLines:

* IKnewIt: As soon as The Judge was introduced in preview materials, there was already speculation that [[spoiler:they were what became of the Deputy]]. It's confirmed multiple times in the game itself.

* ReplacementScrappy: The Highwaymen are usually considered to be a step down from the Peggies, given their CardCarryingVillain attitudes, less fleshed-out background, and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking terrible taste in music]]. It doesn't help that they have fewer named characters for the player to fight, as Frank is basically a throwaway enemy and Irwin Smalls isn't an enemy at all. Not to mention, it was eventually discovered that every time they get an advantage over the Captain, its because the Captain lets them.
* TheScrappy: It’s hard to find anyone who likes Ethan. Not only is he incredibly whiny and unlikable, his very existence contradicts several pre-established elements of Joseph’s character. [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking Also unlike the Seed brothers and many men of Eden's Gate, he lacks a beard]].

* MemeticMutation: Joseph screaming "RELEASE ME!" [[spoiler:if the Captain refuses to put him out of his misery at the end of the story]] has been used in reference to other people or things that might beg for some kind of release, such as Toys/{{Tamagotchi}} that haven't been played with in years.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotPolitical: ''WebVideo/ZeroPunctuation'' points out how the game has inherently conservative undertones in contrast of its predecessors. The villains in this game act against authority and basically having a "might makes right" approach, often playing modern electronic music, while the heroes and the friendly community are tightly-knit community built by tradition and conformity, also prefer classic and early [=20th=] century music.

* ObviousJudas: Judging by the furious rant he goes on about his father abandoning him to take care of New Eden for years, it's pretty clear that Ethan will betray his father at the drop of a hat. [[spoiler:And he does.]]

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** Given the [[AudienceAlienatingEnding divisive manner]] that ''Far Cry 5'' ended, this spin-off is an immediate sequel to the events that preceded, helping explain what happened afterwards and bringing a proper closure this time. Most notably, [[spoiler:Joseph Seed is finally, truly defeated this time]].
** ''5'' was the first game in the series to completely lack bladed weapons, which upset a ton of fans. In ''New Dawn'', you are immediately given a knife, and the stealth kills are now a mix of ''5'''s fisticuffs and the bladed brutality of the earlier games.
** The way that the main story progress solely around the resistance meter in ''5'' and involved being railroaded into story missions was changed to the previous style where it was always the players choice to start a mission.
** Another thing many players were unhappy with in ''5'' was the inability to OneHitKill {{Heavily Armored Mook}}s from afar even with armor-piercing ammo. ''New Dawn'' rectifies this nicely.

* EndingAversion: Inverted. Many people think that the relatively threadbare story and post-apocalyptic atmosphere can't hold a candle to 5, but find the ending, which rectifies everything that happened in 5, to be the game's selling point.
