* ThatOneBoss: Next to no one likes fighting the Ultracite Titan. While it's a solid enough boss in concept, the Ultracite Titan largely boils down to shooting at a huge Boss (that also ignores the damage boosts of Ultracite ammo) while occasionally breaking its crystals and dealing with the minions it summons. Unlike the other Superbosses of the game, the Titan has no interesting mechanic beyond relocating to one of three defined locations in the arena, and having enough health to survive its unavoidable GroundPunch attack that has enough damage to one-shot most players running the ever-so-popular Unyielding build, thus applying a variant of CharacterSelectForcing just to deal with it alone. And what's your reward for going through all of this hassle? Mostly Nuka-World goodies that barely qualifies as useful.

Making things worse is the Titan's ThatOneAttack in the form of an unavoidable GroundPunch attack that cannot be evaded by jumping or flying with jetpacks, that also has enough damage to one-shot most players running the ever-so-popular Unyielding build, thus applying a uniquely-annoying variant of CharacterSelectForcing just to deal with it alone. And what's your reward for going through all of this hassle? Mostly Nuka-World goodies that can be gotten from the fairgrounds below with much less hassle, and the few unique loot it does drop barely qualifies as useful.useful or noteworthy.

* CompleteMonster:
** Thomas Eckhart was a member of the Enclave and the Secretary of Agriculture under the Pre-War Government who was obsessed with eradicating Communism not matter the cost. Being the last surviving member of the presidential cabinet, he became the leader of the Enclave forces inside the Whitespring bunker. His first action as leader was to hold a vote on whether or not they should continue the nuclear war against China and then had everyone who voted against him locked inside a room that was flooded with DeadlyGas. In an attempt to have the automated control system of the Appalachia's nuclear silos raise the DEFCON Level and give him access to nuclear missiles, he unleashed Liberators and Super Mutants onto the survivors on the surface. When this wasn't enough, he also released the Scorchbeasts, which would eventually wipe out most of the remaining human population in the region. Despite being long dead by the time the game takes place, he left behind a region devoid of human life and full of dangerous creatures.
** The Blood and the Eye are a duumvirate of Raiders responsible for transforming the Blood Eagles from an unorganized group of drug-addicted psychos into the most brutal Raider gang in Appalachia. The Blood and the Eye recruit and discipline new Blood Eagles through chem addiction and brutal torture, leaving those who survive completely insane and unbreakably loyal to the Blood Eagles. Their masterpiece is the "Claw", a man named Frankie Beckett who snapped particularly hard after a torture session with the Eye. Ruthless opportunists instead of tragic monsters like the rest of the Blood Eagles, and responsible for atrocities ranging from cannibalism to mass murder of the sickly and helpless, the Blood and the Eye stand out even compared to other Raiders for their sheer cruelty.

** The inclusions of series staple elements like super mutants, the Enclave, or the Brotherhood of Steel weren't very well-appreciated by a decent portion of the playerbase. On one side, there's the camp of players who do enjoy them due to their iconic status, and they also opened up unexplored avenues into the lore of these factions during the time prior to the mainline series. The opposing camp vehemently disliked their inclusion due to the numerous Continuity Snarls that ensued, along with the clumsy rewriting of established lore to justify their presence, with the Brotherhood of Steel getting the worst of this around the time of the game's launch. A third camp is simply tired of seeing the same green mutants and power-armored Brotherhood Knights all over again and wished for more creative faction designs that actually fit the time period 76 takes place in, with their disappointment stemming mainly from how much potential was squandered in favor of the more trite and safe options seen in-game instead.

All the things described on this page made it so even people who have never played a single Fallout game heard about the disastrous launch and subsequent failures related to it (the Duffle Kerfuffle, the botched Nuka Cola Dark in the cheap plastic shell, the refusal to grant any refunds enough that it garnered them an actual class action lawsuit, and of course there was the game itself being a buggy, tedious bore) and have been enjoying the schadenfreude of everyone demanding that Bethesda do better. Since launch, there was one large update that put the [=NPCs=] back into the game, which saved it for the fans still clinging to it hoping for something fun. But that came a while after all the controversies, so it's safe to say it wasn't exactly an AuthorsSavingThrow for the game either.

While the game did see an enormous rise in popularity with the release of the Fallout television seriesNo doubt in part because Amazon Prime subscribers were gifted a free copy of the game, which gave it a huge boost in notoriety and reception, it's safe to say that the catastrophic launch of 76 will never be forgotten.

to:

* WinBackTheCrowd: After several major updates, expansions, and an insane amount of bug fixes, many fans of the franchise have begun to warm up to 76 as a genuinely fun, open-ended entry in the series that's incredibly enjoyable with friends. The release of the television series based on the franchise also gave it a massive NewbieBoom, giving the game a boost in public perception among those who'd never played it before or decided to give it another shot. That being said, as you can see by the plethora of problems listed on this page alone, it's not unreasonable for people to still be justifiably weary of 76.
