** As stated on BrokenAesop on the main page, the entire plot of "Bad Share Day" is only kept in motion because not one person in the entire cast ever thinks to just draw more crayons. It's implied to some degree that everything the crayon makes is only temporary, but it's never made completely clear and the fact that the crayon draws an army of himself to clean up a mess just makes it all the more ridiculous.
** "Ord's Unhappy Birthday" runs on the fact that nobody thought maybe it was a good idea to prepare for a SurpriseParty a day in advance. This forces them to have to keep Ord away, quite awkwardly at that, and leading him to believe he's the victim of a ForgottenBirthday.

* PeripheryDemographic: Probably one of the few shows to have accomplished gaining a fandom of both the intended target audience of little kids ''and'' dragon lovers. It was enough to garner a 6.4 score on Website/{{IMDb}}.

** Norm the Number Gnome.

** Queen Kadoodle, the CuteMute queen of the Doodle Fairies.

** Monsieur Marmadune, the French dragon and the ruler of Kingdom Come.

** The Giant of Nod.
** Mungus the Giant.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: In the first episode, Quetzal mentions that there are other dragon scales out there in the real world, waiting for children to find them. Other than Captain Scallywag, we never see other humans visit Dragon Land or even meet the dragon who blew the scales into the real world.

* EthnicScrappy: Enrique is not at all beloved by fans. He was introduced to teach viewers more about Hispanic culture, but most of them just saw him as an obnoxious walking stereotype (his every appearance is scored to Flamenco guitar and you can make a DrinkingGame out of how many times he he says that he misses his abuelita and Colombia), especially since the show already had ''three main characters who are Hispanic'' but weren't defined by their being Hispanic, to the point where it seemed like him being introduced was really just an excuse to give Zak and Wheezie someone to ride on their backs. It doesn't help that his first appearance mirrors the first episode beat-for-beat. Deja vu indeed.

* RetroactiveRecognition: For any ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' fans, it can be rather humorous hearing the Great and Powerful Trixie as Wheezie or Fluttershy/Pinkie Pie as Emmy. That's not even counting ''Franchise/{{Gundam}}'' fans who could regonize a young [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED Lacus]] as Cassie (equally pink and adorable).

Emmy, who had been struggling to master one the entire day, is the last one to take a turn doing it. Depending on who you ask, the fact that the dragons actually helped her by holding her legs up halfway through the maneuver may make this feel like a cheap victory as Emmy is never seen actually doing it all by herself after the fact.

** WebAnimation/TheOdd1sOut's cover of the theme song[[labelnote:Explanation]] In ''[=TheOdd1sOut=]'' video "Growing Up Without Cable", a hilarious rendition of the theme song is sung when the show is brought up among the programming that Creator/PBSKids aired. It's common to see comments on the actual theme song of the show saying that the video lead them to discover the actual song. [[/labelnote]]
** The out-of-context scene where Ord pulls out a sleeping bag for Emily and Max...except that from where he pulls it out comes off ''[[NotWhatItLooksLike as something else...]]''

* WhatAnIdiot: In one episode, the gang unwisely enters an unusually moist cave in search of their ball while playing Dragon Ball, not raising any alarm at its unusual nature. Only Cassie has enough sense not to enter, after which her friends are revealed to have been ''swallowed by a sleeping dragonocerous''. Unsure of how to escape, they try numerous tactics to try to force him to open his mouth, even ordering Cassie to try several hair-brained schemes to coax him into opening up. The last of which is ordering her to '''drop a rock on his foot to make him scream'''. Cassie immediately points out that this would only provoke him into running away, [[TooDumbToLive to which they order her again to do it]]. Luckily for everyone, Cassie chooses to listen to her own instinct and tickles the creature into opening his mouth, rescuing everybody and preventing a worse outcome.

* PeripheryDemographic: Probably one of the few shows to have accomplished gaining a fandom of both the intended target audience of little kids ''and'' dragon lovers. It was enough to garner a 5.8 score on Website/{{IMDb}}.

* SugarWiki/SweetDreamsFuel: Pretty much the definition of it.

* FanficFuel: What happens to Dragon Land when Max and Emmy grow up? Will they still visit? Will they give the dragon scale to their kids? Do their parents ever find out about it?

* {{MST3K Mantra}}: It's just best not to question some of the more, erm, biological aspects of Zak and Wheezie.

* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped: [[EdutainmentShow When it came to teaching and encouraging the development of healthy social and emotional skills and behaviors]], ''Dragon Tales'' could and would go hard about certain subjects in its own tactfully frank yet streamlined and subtle way. One moment of ''many'' of the show doing this that stuck out was the brief but poignant discussion Quetzal and Enrique shared about the emotionally unhealthy notion that [[MenDontCry boys don't cry]].

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Fans either find Ord to be lovable, or are annoyed by his constant whining.

* MagnificentBastard: [[Recap/DragonTalesS1E21 Do Not Pass Gnome]]": [[TheHost Simon Says]] is a friendly, mystical elf who tells Emmy he'll fix the yo-yo her younger brother Max broke if they play a game of "Simon Says". After Simon tricks Max onto the board and reveals he can only get off if he wins the game eventually, the others then agree to play too. Playing a [[AffablyEvil very congratulatory and happy host]], Simon trips up several of the players throughout the game with levels like a Twister-like one, an upward path one and a Limbo one. When the players reach the very end, Simon nearly [[TricksterMentor tricks them all into failing]] before Max catches on and Simon then proudly declares they've won the game and Emmy's yo-yo is fixed.
