Gabby is a Base Breaking Character. She wasn't a minor character enough to count for this trope either way, getting a lot of Character Focus to the point of being Decoy Protagonist.

** For a character who [[spoiler: doesn't survive past the early merge]], Gabby is easily one of the most popular characters of Season 1, owing to her energetic personality, her wholesome relationship with Ellie, and [[spoiler:playing an integral role in the subplot alongside Tom]].

* CommonKnowledge: Whenever Riya's [[spoiler:FaceHeelTurn]] is brought up, those who argue for how bad it was bring up the moment when [[spoiler:she leaves Aiden dangling on a cliff]] during the final challenge before leaving him to die, claiming that it was done deliberately in order to get rid of him. This is only partially true: while Riya ''does'' leave Aiden to die by [[spoiler:falling off a cliff]], what she was actually trying to do was BreakThemByTalking by telling Aiden how he wasn't cut out for the finale, all while walking towards him and Aiden walking backward, which eventually lead to the mentioned moment by accident.

** Some fans believe that Ellie is one of, if not the biggest causes of trauma for Jake, as well as the main reason why their relationship eventually fell apart. While Ellie had an undeniable role in the relationship crashing down, it was actually ''Grett'' who kickstarted it, revealing Tom's secret to Jake and Miriam, which would eventually lead Jake to be vulnerable enough to fall for Ellie's lie.
* CrackPairing: Next to Jaiden, or Aiden X James, Aiden X Hunter was one of the most popular pairings during the airing of the second season, and still has its fair share of supporters even after the season ended. In terms of canon, the two hardly share an interaction before the final few episodes, and even then, they don't have any one-on-one interactions.

** Some of Ellie's detractors tend to paint her as a manipulative {{Jerkass}} who willingly played with Jake's trauma in order to destroy his and Tom's relationship. While she's undeniably one of the more unpleasant players within the game, Ellie's generally neutral at best, and is implied to be at least decent outside of the game.
** Likewise, some of Jake's detractors paint him as an overly emotional {{Manchild}} who's dumb enough to be played by everyone and too toxic for Tom. In truth, Jake's usually fairly chill and even friendly during the game, and it's only when his traumas are pressed does he act like an irrational paranoiac.

* MoreInterestingAsAVillain: Back when Season 2 was still just starting, a popular theory popped up that claimed Hunter could become a villainous character, whether a minor one or even the main antagonist of the season, an idea that was only enhanced when Hunter performed some rather questionable actions that made him seem less sympathetic than intended. Needless to say, while Hunter has plenty of fans, there are just as many fans who feel he'd be more interesting, or at least less controversial, if the show had gone down the villain route.

* OneTruePairing: Even between the many ships among the first two seasons and the combinations thereof, you'd be hard-pressed to find a fan who doesn't ship Will and Ashley together, as a result of their adorable interactions and healthy dynamic among the more morally neutral pairings in the show.

Even between the many ships among characters of the first two seasons season and the combinations thereof, you'd be hard-pressed to find a fan who doesn't ship Will and Ashley together, as a result of their adorable interactions and healthy dynamic among the more morally neutral pairings in the show.show.
** Likewise, there's very few fans who don't ship Ellie and Gabby together, owing to the fact that they're not only very supportive and wholesome with each other, but that her relationship with Gabby is one of the few positive things about a character as morally ambiguous as Ellie.
** While nobody can deny that they had a rough start and some pretty low moments, by the end of Season 2, Jaiden (James X Aiden) is easily the most popular pairing and considered a highlight of the season, to the point they're one of the few couples to be relatively happy and healthy come ''All-Stars''.

Added DiffLines:

There's also the fact that [[spoiler:Episode 6]] was one of two cases where both teams had to vote someone out (as a whole team rather than one member of the winning team getting to eliminate someone from the losing team in Epsidoe 5), with the previous one being Episode 1, which pulled off the same twist.

Character Perception Evolution isn't for examples that are less than 5 years old.

* CharacterPerceptionEvolution:
** Hoo boy, did Hunter go through probably every possible stage in a record time. During the early episodes, Hunter was among the fan favorites for being a relatable and rootable NiceGuy, being strategic without being unsympathetic, the popularity of both his ships with Tess and Ally (with the trio being shipped together also being a fairly popular choice) as well as due to some fans being invested in the theory that he would turn out to be the HiddenVillain of the season. However, he then became a BaseBreakingCharacter after [[spoiler:episodes 4-6 started giving him quite frequent UnintentionallyUnsympathetic moments. While initially at about a middle ground during Episode 4, his reception started leaning more towards the negative side during episodes 5-6 when he revealed he took Tess's pills without her knowing in the former episode and kept avoiding the girls in the latter, which was not only seen as outright unsympathetic but also wasn't received well by shippers of both of his ships. His base-breaker status leaned more towards the positive side once episodes 7-8 focused again on making him TrueCompanions with both Tess and Ally. Then, Episode 9 turned him into outright TheScrappy for [[ATragedyOfImpulsiveness impulsively kissing Ally despite telling the girls to wait for his answer after the show ends]] as well as because it became hard not to notice he's been handled 3 contrived immunity wins in a row. Episode 10 then made him RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap, reverting him back to BaseBreakerCharacter status, by making him acknowledge and genuinely regret his impulsive mistake, actually earn his victory for a change, and [[OddFriendship befriend Rosa Maria]] whom he was the only person to trust and not vote for after she was framed for stealing others' belongings.]]
** Ally was one of the more popular contestants of the second season because of her GamerChick and NiceGirl personality, along with her interactions with Tess and Hunter. However, the later episodes decreased her status by having her make some dumb decisions (taking a shower when a killer is on the loose, building a snowboard instead of a sled as instructed, etc.) and not having much in terms of plot contribution and character growth. While Ally does have her fans, most people now see her as generic.
** Yul, while never the most complex character, was given significant attention by the fandom during the early episode back when it looked like he was gonna be a main antagonist. However, once he was [[spoiler:eliminated]], he became a BaseBreakingCharacter, with people wondering if he was a decent antagonist for his time of the game, or if more should've been done with him.
** [[spoiler:Riya]] is possibly tied with Hunter for the most drastic change in character perception, even though they don't go through as many changes as him. When the season first starts, the character essentially acts as a background character until the plot gives them something to do, and at that time audiences either liked the character but wished they did more, or were outright neutral towards them. Come the latter half of Season 2, [[spoiler:Riya goes through a FaceHeelTurn that results in her becoming the final antagonist for the season, which caused her reception to shatter the audience between those who enjoy the direction and think Riya serves as a decent villain to cap off the season, while others think the change is too abrupt and extreme for it to feel natural]].

Rewriting and rephrasing this since it feels pretty insensitive and mean to create this giant paragraph mocking some of the V As who aren't native English speakers, especially when these V As in question aren't industry professionals.

* {{Narm}}: The voice acting for the English version can come off as this considering it's been criticized for making the line deliveries be seen as dull or making constant mispronounciations for words as major as characters' names or for some of the simpliest words in English vocabulary that you'd suspect they'd know how to pronounce or at least would've been corrected about during production. James's voice actor is a big example, especially when he mispronounces words like Riya as "Wry-a" or "scissors" as "sizers", to the point where the creators referenced this by having James misspell her name as “Raya” once when voting. Other notable examples include Riya's voice actress mispronouncing Yul's name as "Jul" (although this could be justified due to Y in Spanish making a sound almost identical to English J) or the word "girlfriend" as "geerlfriend" (an understandable example though, as the near-close near-front unrounded vowel (English "i") and the close front unrounded vowel (English long "E") are merged in some languages and dialects) or Gabby's voice actress, who's most notorious for making grammar mistakes, pronouncing past tense "voted" as present tense "vote" every single time or saying "'''Ellie been''' trying to save you" to Tom. Justified, as James is Brazilian, Riya is Indian, and Gabby is Polish, so their first languages would most likely be Brazilian Portuguese, Hindi, and Polish respectively, although it doesn't explain the production team not correcting them about the proper pronounciation.

I'd call it understandable (people in my country would also make the same pronounciation mistake), not subtle. "Girlfriend" and "geerlfriend" sound quite different.

** While there were various theories about what the mysterious card meant exactly for them, it was generally predicted that [[spoiler:Ellie and Grett weren't eliminated in Episode 6.]]

* StrawmanHasAPoint: While Ellie was rather harsh in her words about her fellow contestants in post-Season 1 interviews, which even her own girlfriend points out, she did raise some valid points. Namely, why would a secret spy enter a reality show where their identity and job was bound to be revealed to the public, calling out Miriam for [[CrossesTheLineTwice pretending to have a heart attack to eliminate her]], or calling out Alec for claiming on international TV that he wished his son was more like [[EnfantTerrible Fiore]].
