There's a surprising amount of boards to board up the door with - meaning you can ''completely cover the door''.
* MemeticMutation: The Staff is itself a boss fight. In the second game, the player must pick up a staff but it's deep in a dungeon with limited way(s) to return - and their inventory is definitely full of large items that take up space.
* NarmCharm:
** The art style - primarily Randall and even Jennifer's appearances, looks very much like something that wouldn't be out of place in early [=2000s=] [=DeviantArt=]. However, a lot of people may not care.
** The sheer amounts of ways you can get Jennifer killed is arguably ''worth'' doing just to hear Death snark at you.
* QuicksandBox: The first game is very straightforward. The second and third games not so much - it's very easy to get overwhelmed and spend hours wandering around not knowing an intended order of event(s).
* ScrappyMechanic:
** RandomEncounters in the first game serve little to no purpose other than to waste your time.
** The sleep mechanic in the third game.
* SpiritualAdaptation:
** The games are intended to be this for ''VideoGame/MacVenture'' games, especially the second game which even uses a similar interface.
** The second game in particular is about a person exploring an abandoned town with a cult - very similar to ''VideoGame/SilentHill''.
* ThatOneLevel:
** Any maze section - especially ones you have to go through multiple times.
** In the second game, the tower features multiple puzzles that can be [[ThatOnePuzzle annoying]].
* ThatOnePuzzle:
** In the tower of the moon, the "Two are lying, one tells the truth" puzzle for one simple fact: It's randomised each time.
** The room puzzle frustrates a lot of people due to only one option being right, but the logic to figure it out requires a lot of reading. What's more, there are a ''lot'' of potential choices - and many of them are dead. Oh, and you'll have to go through the "Two are lying, one is truthful" puzzle again.
* TheWoobie: Poor Jennifer, who gets killed and possessed and at the end [[spoiler: loses everyone who helped her out]].
