** Even though she had a change of heart and came back, Yuki not wanting to give Puni back to Mika is understandable, as he (and Shigeru) have grown attached to him and [[spoiler: abandoning your child]] doesn't sit well with a lot of people, even if you are young and afraid.

** Proper sex education is important for teens. Given the comedic nature of Yuki and Shigeru having unprotected sex in the first volume and their road to parenthood being relatively light-hearted, it's likely that the manga did not mean to make this a major point. Neverthless, the entire premise of the manga could have been avoided and everyone's [[ColorFailure reaction]] to Yuki and Shigeru's complete ignorance on how condoms work is pretty telling.

** Shigeru's dad Norio is definitely meant to be antagonistic at first, and he's overall somewhat irritating due to spending most of his first appearance in the manga literally running away from discussing his daughter's pregnancy. He's not all that endearing when he's finally tracked down and forced to come back home, insulting both Yuki ''and'' Yuki's father Rikimaru for how he raised Yuki. Even so, his breakdown and ire towards Yuki is understandable. He was prepared to meet what he thought was his cute daughter's female friend for the first time, only to find out not only was "she" a he, but also that his teenage daughter was frequently staying over a boy's house without parental supervision. Shigeru making the decision to reveal the fact that she's pregnant during the ''very first time'' he's met said Yuki couldn't have worked out any worse. Even the most open-minded of parents would probably handle that poorly. As for Rikimaru, it's shown throughout the manga that he's not the best parent so Norio and it doesn't help that Norio's first interaction with Rikimaru involved the latter beating him up for accidentally bumping into his pet seal.

** Shigeru's dad Norio can be somewhat of an irritating character due to spending most of his appearances in the manga literally running away discussing his daughter's pregnancy. He's not all that endearing when he stops running away, where he insults Yuki ''and'' Yuki's father for how he raised Yuki. However, given his love for Shigeru it's clear that he's just understandably overwhelmed at the prospect of his daughter's life being turned upside down by her pregnancy. Not to mention that Shigeru drops the fact that she's pregnant on the ''very first time'' he meets Yuki and learns that they're a couple. There was no way anyone in his shoes would handle that well. As for Yuki's dad it's safe to say that he earned Norio's ire for beating him up for what was a complete accident.

Once the real reason comes out for why he's visiting, Shigeru's mother admits that she deserves some blame for her Shigeru's pregnancy -- if she had bothered to ask her daughter more about her friend she'd probably be less open to Shigeru spending the night at Yuki's place so frequently.

** Make sure you know what your children are doing and who they're hanging out with. Shigeru's mother laments the fact that she mistook Yuki for a girl due to his name; had she met him before there would have probably been a lot less "overnight visits".
