* ViewerSpeciesConfusion: Mr. Big is frequently called an Allosaurus, including by himself, but he has a nose horn like a Ceratosaurus.

* TearJerker: For such a light-hearted comedy, what became of Rex's father King is rather dark. First, he was tricked into drinking a mind-controlling potion by the BigBad. Who then not only forced him to put on a show of surrendering Saur City. He's then imprisoned for years, clearly being held in terrible conditions.

* IdiotPlot: The story wouldn't have happened if Timmy's parents weren't such lousy scientists. Them jumping the gun and rushing off half-cocked, leaving their child unsupervised, allows Timmy and his friends to access the lab and mess with the experimental equipment.
** Timmy and co. also wouldn't have been zapped into the show if he hadn't insisted on using the big screen TV in the lab to begin with.
** [[spoiler:King didn't need to die to destroy the tower; at the time he unleashes the lava flow, Mr. Big has already been defeated and zapped into another cartoon. ''He'' didn't know this, though, so ''he'' isn't the idiot, rather, his son and the others are; upon defeating Mr. Big, they should've gone and found King and stopped him from uselessly sacrificing himself, but instead they just consign the old guy to his fate and run off.]]

* WhatAnIdiot: Timmy's parents. Ostensibly brilliant scientists are really terrible scientists. After ''one'' successful test, which they neither record nor repeat, they take what they see as "conclusive proof," an orange they sent through ("We've got the data, we've got the proof!") and go running off to the people funding their work hoping they'll be granted permission to ''send humans through''! [[spoiler:They return at the end of the film, revealing that their backers were ''not'' convinced by the "proof" and have denied them permission to use human test subjects.]]

* SugarWiki/NoProblemWithLicensedGames: The SNES platformer DinoCity was based on this film. The film is generally felt to be subpar and uninteresting, while the game is held up as an above-average 2D platformer, and one of the better games in Irem's catalog.
