* VideoGame/TeamFortress2: Meet The Spy has the BLU Soldier open fire at the BLU Spy, convinced that he's the RED Spy in disguise. In-game, this would've been a perfectly sound course of action - teammates are FriendlyFireproof, disguised Spies aren't, and the other two people in the room would make for more immediately obvious disguises. Unfortunately, since this was a Meet The Team short, he kills his teammate with a single shot and gets backstabbed by the real RED Spy immediately afterwards.

* VideoGame/Persona4: Dojima is a competent detective and is actually just a step behind the Investigation Team in their investigation into the central murder mystery. The problem is that he (understandably) doesn't believe he's in an UrbanFantasy, which throws him off from seeing the full picture.

%%* Bang Shishigami from the Franchise/Blazblue games is an ultra-hammy ninja who seems to fully believe that he is the action hero of a Shonen anime series fighting against TheEmpire. He even tells the player to "Tune in next week!" in one of his victory quotes from the first game! While he is technically not wrong about the genre or the state of his world, he is definitely not TheHero - in fact the actual protagonist (a vengeful, amoral NinetiesAntiHero, think a hybrid of Dante, Guts and Sol Badguy and you're partway there) just treats him as a nuisance.

* VideoGame/MassEffectAndromeda: Liam, being a movie buff, falls into this on occasion, thinking Peebee's declaring LetsSplitUpGang might result in her death by spike pit (it doesn't), and more seriously during his LoyaltyMission, where he thinks that if you rush into a situation with no real plan, it's still "supposed" to work because they're the heroes. What happens is everything goes seriously screwy.

* VideoGame/FateGrandOrder: In the "All the Statesmen!" event, the Master With No Name horribly mistreats her Servants for having low rarity value and stats, and acts like she owns her version of Chaldea with no consequence. ** Once the main characters realize that there's a killer on the loose, Emily insists to Matt that they should not go back to the lodge, as that's what he'd be expecting them to do.
** After learning about , the main characters initially assume that [[spoiler:they are like zombies -- and that Emily, should she be bitten by a wendigo during her chase scene, is infected. They're wrong, but they only learn that after you're given the option to kill her.]] Sam is the only one willing to give Emily the benefit of the doubt and tries calming the others down, and needless to say, Emily is quite justifiably furious afterwards.
