* Sakura Kinomoto from ''Manga/CardCaptorSakura'' is afraid ghosts much to the point that even hearing a rumor or a ghost story frightens her.

* ''Manga/AshitaNoJoe'': Ryuhi Kin has an immense fear of this [[spoiler:due to him accidentally killing his father when he thought his father was a hungry soldier coming back from the Korean War to get him food.]]

* In ''Manga/AshitaNoJoe'' the titular character is afraid of hitting his opponents in the head, [[spoiler:because of his rival Rikishi died by suffering a blow to the head by Joe himself.]]

* In the obscure, one-shot ''Anime/SonicTheHedgehogTheMovie'' {{O|riginalVideoAnimation}}VA, Tails freaks out when lightning strikes.

* ''Manga/OnePiece'': In the Jaya Arc Nami freaks the hell out of she discovers a tarantula crawling on her waist and even Sanji is scared as well. Usopp surprisingly ''isn't'' picking it up and pets it claiming he used to train spiders when he was young.

** It's not really surprising that Oda made [[TheChick Nami]] afraid of bugs as well, but [[ChefOfIron Sanji]]? He's just as terrified. It's even more hilarious, when Usopp, who embodies the LovableCoward trope, is the only one of three who is not afraid of insects and finds them cute.

* ''Manga/OnePiece'': In the Jaya Arc Nami freaks the hell out of she discovers a tarantula crawling on her waist and even Sanji is scarred as well. Usopp surprisingly ''isn't'' picking it up and pets it claiming he used to train spiders when he was young.

* Tetsuya Tsurugi from ''Anime/GreatMazinger'' and Kyouichi Shidou from ''Manga/IdatenJump''. Both of them were attacked by birds when they were small children. Naturally, the omake of the ''Idaten Jump'' episode featuring Shido's hate of birds milked it for what it's worth.

* One villain in ''[[Manga/OPartsHunter]]'' took this to a ridiculous degree: he's so afraid of heights that he is scared crapless if he needs to ''stand up''.

* In ''Manga/{{Berserk}}'' Casca directly after the Eclipse [[spoiler: where she was violently raped by Griffith as Femto and went insane]] is naturally terrified of men and won't Guts or Ricket touch her, only trusting Erica (the daughter of Godo the blacksmith). This caused immense pain for Guts who had until that point been in a extremely intimate relationship with Casca and her fearing him motivated his desire to leave and go on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge against Griffith (the bastard responsible in large part for putting her in this state to begin with) to cope. After the TimeSkip, Casca got over her fear of men and lets complete strangers touch her, [[AllMenArePerverts which proves to be dangerous]]. Unfortunately Casca's phobia of men becomes limited only to Guts after he gets possessed by [[EnemyWithin the Beast of Darkness]] and nearly strangles her, to the point that [[spoiler:upon getting her former personality restored Casca no longer fears Guts but the mere ''sight'' of him is a TraumaButton so [[StarCrossedLovers they remain apart]]]].

* Ryoshi Morino in ''LightNovel/OokamiSan'' has extreme scopophobia (fear of being seen or stared at); he shrinks down into a cringing ball and covers his face whenever people look at him.

* Kitsuka from ''Manga/BrynhildrInTheDarkness'' had an water pool accident when she was younger. She tripped in a pool where she could stand perfectly, and she nearly drowned. This traumatized her enough to suffer from aquaphopia.

* Sonic in ''Anime/SonicX'' (though not in the games, oddly). In an early episode, he falls into a pool of water during a fight with Knuckles and immediately begins thrashing around and screaming for help, only to be rather embarrassed when he realises the water is only ankle-deep.

* Akito Hayama from ''[[Manga/KodomoNoOmocha Kodocha]]''.

* ''Manga JoJosBizarreAdventureDiamondIsUnbreakable'' [[HealingHands Josuke Higashikata]] is scared or at least unnerved around turtles. In fact we first see both aspects of [[FightingSpirit his Stand]] [[Music/PinkFloyd Crazy Diamond]] when he heals the turtle after it was injured, and messes up a bully's nose for life. However, Josuke is actually there to try and get over it, which would work in real life (small, controlled exposure to the phobia).

Due to the nature of his job he can recognize them easily, but he is not infallible. Much to his annoyance - as a master lockpicker and trap disabler- many parties expect him to open and deal with mimics, which is almost always a supremely dangerous waste of time.

* ''Anime/{{Doraemon}}'': The title character is afraid of mice despite being a robotic cat. It's because he was once sleeping and mice ate his ears. He turned blue of the shock and that's why he is a blue, ear-less robot cat.

* Kaede Nagase of ''Manga/MahouSenseiNegima'', the badass {{Ninja}}, and easily the most calm of the entire cast seems to only be thrown off by the mere sight of frogs. Any frogs.

* [[PrincelyYoungMan Austria]] of ''Webcomic/AxisPowersHetalia'' is ''terrified'' of sea creatures like crabs and starfish, as he freaks out when [[TheDitz North Italy]] catches one in one of the CD dramas.

Moreover, the story arc where this phobia of his is integrated into the plot sees to it that he would TakeALevelInBadass, if somewhat -- while he'd initially show fear even to the ''sound'' of airplane engines or toys at the start of the arc, by the end of it he manages to overcome that level of fear so that he's only terrified in physically getting inside the plane, not feeling afraid of them once he's outside of it.

* Silver Mask aka Hilmes from ''LightNovel/{{The Heroic Legend of Arslan}}'' has developed a fear of fire ever since he was young. He was traumatized by what happened to the right side of his face being burned, thus concealing it in a silver mask. Since then, he has feared those flames.

* ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'': Kouji Kouda is afraid of insects, but since his Quirk is to command and control animals, he sometimes needs to overcome his fear to help his comrades.
** Present Mic is also terrified of insects, which is how Kouda and Jirou manage to hilariously defeat him in their exam.

* Aoi Yukimura from ''Manga/YamaNoSusume'' is afraid of heights. [[spoiler: Kaede also has a fear of heights which she uses rock climbing to help conquer]]
