As for what you say - yes, he's fucking supposed to ignore the mysterious signal and bring the colonizers to their intended destination. Nobody knows anything about the planet. Karine was able to be composed and calm and she's only the biologist aboard. She even went as far as trying to comfort the dying Ledwards on his last moments - that's it, until she realized how dangerous things were getting. Then she takes a knife and is at least able to defend against the Neomorph for a time. Captain Oram and Daniels are not members of the security crew either. Does this mean this is secretly a crew of badasses? Or that Faris is just a panicked mess. Tennesse says that her wife has never behaved like this - except we have nothing other than this word, making her composure a case of Informed Ability.
