** The Boov change colors to reflect emotions. Red is anger, yellow is fear, orange is happiness, blue is sadness, and pink seems to be affection. In addition, they turn [[CannotTellALie green when they lie]].
** Although, it's possible that only Oh turns green when lying, or that the tell is present in only some Boov or can be avoided, as Smek lies to the Boov in his announcement, trying to prevent them from worrying about Oh's email and the Gorg, but he doesn't turn green. Then again, it might be guilt that causes green coloration, as Smek doesn't seem to feel guilty about much of anything, while Oh is much more empathetic.

* MoodWhiplash: The film's soundtrack album has a big case of this. The fourth track, Rihanna's "As Real As You and Me" tells us that "''There could be a freak accident / There could be a fatal disease / I know we hate to think about it / But this as real as you and me...''" This is immediately followed by Charli [=XCX=]'s "Red Balloon" - "''Ah-ooh! If you got troubles, let 'em go / Let 'em soar so high, high into the sky just like a red balloon / Ah-ooh! Don't let your worries get to you / Let 'em float on by, high into the sky just like a red balloon...''"

** Doubling as a ActorAllusion, there is a gag with Oh [[PlanesTrainsAndAutomobiles playing around with the seat controls]] for the car.

* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Oh's talk about how the Boov "liberate and befriend" humans, and how Captain Smek taught him and the other Boov that humans were "just like the animals" makes the colonialism metaphor blatantly obvious.

* ArgumentOfContradictions: Oh and Captain Smek have one of these over whether or not Oh would make another mistake. They decide it's so fun that they keep doing it for a while before Smek gets fed up with it and decides he should just erase Oh, though he doesn't get the chance.

* DirtyCoward: This is practically the Boov's [[PlanetOfHats hat]]. As Oh himself puts it: "When probability for success drops below fifty percent, Boov run away." Captain Smek is even worse, often shoving aside other Boov to ensure his own safety. Part of Oh's CharacterDevelopment is moving beyond this.
