The show, when first advertised, put much emphasis on Sharon's braces, as they were affected during a lighting storm while being fitted onto her mouth. Every now and then they would occasionally affect the environment around her (lockers, water fountains, radios, etc). As the show went on, this focus was dropped for the usual slice of life and "teenage issues" stories (though it does occasionally pop up).

* MissingEpisode: Season three didn't air in America, because of the heavier, kid-unfriendly subject matter, such as homosexuality, eating disorders, and body image issues. The episode "Grey Matters" (where Maria dates an abusive Arab boy and thinks Sharon is racist because of her grandfather) also didn't air in America (and that was a season two episode).

* FootFocus: The show had a lot of odd shots of bare or, if a winter themed ep, socked feet scattered through it's run.

* MagicalReality: Apart from the strange things the braces do, the series is standard slice of life.

* {{Stepford Smiler}}: Nina, she makes a big deal how popular she is. But in truth due to her mean spirited nature and the fact her parent are constantly busy, is actually quite lonely. Gets especially noticeable after Alyson leaves her.

* {{Cross Dressing Voices}}: Averted, though the only prepubescent male regular is Sharon's younger brother Josh (played by MichaelCera [before he became famous in the states for ''Arrested Development'' and ''Scott Pilgrim vs. The World''), whose voice actually did break during the show's run).

* MissingEpisode: Some episodes didn't air in the US due to subjects that weren't considered suitable for children, such as homosexuality.

* AlphaBitch: Nina Harper. Partially subverted - she's as rich, popular, and nasty as any proper AlphaBitch, but is not {{Book Dumb}}. She's actually at the top of her class.

* {{Breast Expansion}}: One episode dealt with this hilariously.

* {{Cross Dressing Voices}}: Averted, though the only prepubescent male regular is Sharon's younger brother Josh (played by MichaelCera, whose voice actually did break during the show's run).

* {{Foot Focus}}: During the winter-themed episodes, the animators certainly loved to show off characters in socked feet.

* {{Getting Crap Past The Radar}}: In "Busted", Sharon gets a bra that makes you look like your breasts became bigger.

* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Maria and Sharon respectively.

* WhatTheHellHero: One episode have Sharon and Maria getting back on Nina by sabotaging her performance in a show, but realizes they went too far when she is more humiliated than they intended, even putting her at a risk of falling from her swing onto the stage from a great height. They also went through with this by taking advantage of [[HeelFaceTurn Alyson's]] trust in them.
