* DriventoSuicide: [[spoiler:After the school threatens to expel Ma-ri, she attempts to kill herself by diving into a lake of freezing water, as vampire are sensitive to the cold.]]

* TookALevelInKindness: Ah-ra all the way. She tries her best to torment Ma-ri when she starts getting Jae-min's interest and threatens to expose her secret to the world if she doesn't cut off contact with Jae-min. She spends as much time as she can trying to destroy Ma-ri only to fail every time. As she ends up spending more time with the cast, she cools down and by the time[[spoiler:Ma-ri's secret is revealed, has become nice enough that Ma-ri's treatment at the hands of the school completely horrifies her.]]

* AlphaBitch: Ah-ra pretty popular at school and also quite mean, as seen by the way she constantly bullies Ma-ri. However she fails to get Jae-min to care about her and she fails to scare Ma-ri away from him. After [[spoiler:getting threatened by Si-Hoo to keep their vampirism a secret]], she gets better - she even [[spoiler: joins the band and defends her near the end of the story when Ma-ri goes through a terrifying crisis]].

* BandagedFace: [[spoiler: Si-hoo wraps his face in bandages and wears heavy covering clothing to reach Ma-ri's school in chapter 112, as he would be burning alive if his skin were exposed to the sun at this point.]]

** A far less humorous example with Jae-min; he does not take being touched by a girl (other than Ma-ri) well at all. Once more, [[spoiler: if Ma-ri is assaulted in any way, his immediate response is to lay the offending party out.]]

* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler: Jae-min punches out some of the students threatening Ma-ri, ''gulps down'' one of the packets of blood at her feet, in front of most of the school and drags Ma-ri away from the school]] in Chapter 112.

Then it gets even worse when Yoo Chae Rin reveals to the school that she is a vampire out of spite (in the middle of a huge vampire scare).]]
* BroughtDownToNormal: Vampires in this setting have been turned into nothing more than ordinary humans with some special dietary needs by centuries of drinking pigs' blood. Inverted by Si-hoo, who gets a human girlfriend who doesn't mind his vampirism for a while and even gives him her blood. [[spoiler: After a while, he becomes a traditional vampire who can be killed by sunlight but has superhuman strength.]]

* FreudianExcuse: The reasons behind Jae-min's dislike for women and vampires. [[spoiler: His biological mother left his dad for a vampire (albeit a nice one). He wasn't told that she was threatened to stay away from them. His father eventually grew indifferent to him and turned a blind eye while Jae-Min's stepmom beat him and constantly ridiculed him because his mother fell in love with a vampire. His father also berated both him and her for the same reason. To add insult to injury, his dad winds up showing his half-brother with affection while ignoring him. He was even harassed by his friends because his mom fell in love with a vampire. The experience left him rather traumatized.]]

* GuiltFreeExterminationWar: 300 hundred years ago vampires were nearly wiped out completely in a very much literal extermination, until they discovered they were able to survive on pig's blood and the governments of the world allowed them to continue living. The general public opinion of people in the current time is that the war should have continued and wiped out all vampires. [[spoiler: Later events in story make the war starting up again a ''very'' real concern, but it's averted at the climax when it's revealed that a murder that was thought to be done by a vampire was done by a bum who wanted to stir up controversy; this jumpstarts a human-lead vampire rights movement.]]

* IAteWhat?: There was a day when Ma-ri [[spoiler: forgot her lunch, a bag of pig's blood, and turned to Si-hoo for help. He gives her an extra blood bag that turns out to be human blood.]] Ma-ri is shocked and disgusted when she finds out, and leaves feeling more than a little sullied.

* {{Jerkass}}: Doesn't express Si-Hoo's personality. He was dancing on a MoralEventHorizon in Chapter 45 ForTheLulz. [[spoiler:Fortunately he was interrupted.]] He gets ''slightly'' nicer to Ma-ri over time, even [[spoiler:stopping Ah-ra from revealing they're vampires]] (though this might have not been for Ma-ri's sake); he still antagonises everybody around him. And then there's [[spoiler: his method of breaking up with Yoo Chae Rin, which is to tell her after knocking her to the ground that their entire relationship was a lie and he never saw her as anything but a walking blood bank and that he's now sick of the very sight of her.]]

* KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler: Yoo Chae Rin only gets a slap in the face even though she tried to ruin Ma-ri's life and even gets back together with Si-hoo (romantically or not is unknown) at the end of the story.]]

So much so that when Ma-ri learns of is HeManWomanHater attitude, she doesn't believe it. Eventually, the more and more time he spends with her the more balanced he becomes emotionally.

* LaserGuidedKarma: [[spoiler: Shi-hoo decides to cut things off with Chae-rin none too gently because he has feelings for Ma-ri and wants to be with her after Jae-min breaks up with her when he finds out she's a vampire. But then all of the human blood he'd gotten from Chae-rin catches up with him, and he is no longer immune to sunlight. He does get super strength, though.]]

* MyGreatestFailure: Jae-Min's mother [[spoiler: broke her promise with Jae-Min and (unknowingly) left him to be abused by his step mother.]] Ever since then, she has tried her hardest to atone and mend bridges between her son and herself (as well as her new husband), but with very little success.

** In the past, Jae-Min's mom [[spoiler: left his father for a vampire she fell in love with years ago. During the divorce, she promised to come get him. But his father threatened to reveal the identity of the vampire she had remarried to so she broke her promise. Unfortunately, she underestimated just how much people would ostracize her son because she left for a vampire. She was also unaware that he was physically/emotionally abused by his stepmother until he ran away.]]
** Si-hoo's jerkass method of [[spoiler: breaking up with Yoo Chae Rin after revealing that he is engaged to Ma-ri, with included him telling her the entire relationship was a lie, he was only using her for her blood and she disgusts him now, causes Yoo Chae Rin to snap and reveal to the entire school Ma-ri is a vampire.]]
* NonHumanLoverReveal: In Chapter 91 [[spoiler: Jae-min finally learns Ma-ri is a vampire when his friend recognises her as the vampire classmate he knew from his childhood. To say he does not take this news well is an understatement.]]

So the tale of a reserved vampire girl and her persistent love interest begins. Will the self imposed isolation of Ma-ri prevent her from living her high school life to the fullest? Will she give in to the tantalizing smell of Jae-min, the handsome classmate she met on the subway? Will the school band ever make it big? Will this beautifully drawn comic ever rise above the ClicheStorm that surrounds every aspect of its plot? The answer is, "Absolutely."

* KindnessButton: Ma-ri is this for Jae-min. * LivingEmotionalCrutch: Deconstructed. Once Soori gets over her FantasticRacism for vampires, she tries to be this for Ma-ri, constantly supporting her and defending her from others. However, Soori has her own problems, such as her mother, whose health is rapidly deteriorating. As the comic progresses, Soori is DemotedToExtra as she spends an increasing amount of time at the hopsital when her mother begins to die; this means she can't be there when Ma-ri needs her most and the few appearances she does make shows that she'd be too emotionally exhausted to offer her usual bright and cheerful optimism.

* Not-So-HarmlessVillain: [[spoiler: After making a complete fool of herself trying to woo Jaemin or destroy Ma-ri, Ah-ra nearly ruins Ma-ri's life when she finds out that she is a vampire.]]

* HeelFaceTurn: It takes a long time, but eventually [[spoiler:Ah-ra]] gets one of these and by the end. Whilst she hides it well it's clear she's a lot more concerned for Ma-ri's well-being than she lets on and even gets into a fight with [[spoiler:Yoo Chae Rin after she ruins Ma-ri's life.]]

* EvilAlbino: Si-hoo, in shades. He has pale skin and white hair, but his red eyes may be due to vampirism. He's also quite a jerk, though he zig-zags between a JerkWithAHeartOfGold and plain cruel throughout the series. [[spoiler: The end implies he's ultimately a good guy who abandons vampire tradition in order to be with a human.]]

* OurVampiresAreDifferent: The vampires of ''Orange Marmalade'' were once standard vampires. Long lives, drank human blood, very hard to kill, healed quickly, had near super strength and a deadly weakness to sunlight. By the time of the story, due to restrictions placed on them after a war that drove them to near extinctions they survive off of only pigs blood and have lost almost all their vampiric traits, except for their reduced but still fast healing they also still have a small weakness to sunlight, but it causes them no physical pain or discomfort and they have gained a weakness to cold temperatures.

* Passive-AgressiveKombat: Ma-ri's modus operandi when she get ticked at Jaemin, mixed in with a healthy dose of IceQueen.
