* HornedHairdo: Scarlet has two licks of hair on the side of her head that stand up, giving the image of devil horns.

* BloodlessCarnage: Surprisingly, since there’s usually at least some blood when Scarlet kills sinners, there’s really not much blood when [[spoiler: Brook tears off her arm and leg.]]

* BreatherEpisode: Shortly after revelations about Scarlet [[spoiler: becoming part demon and getting her ass kicked by another reaper,]] we are treated to an episode involving Chase’s DND group...[[spoiler: and then we find out [[MoodWhiplash the world is ending.]]]]
* ChekhovsGun: All the ominous signs in the background? They aren't just to set the mood. They’re foreshadowing [[spoiler: the world ending.]]

* CurbStompBattle: Ultimately, what Scarlet and Brook’s fight is. She may be an ActionGirl, but [[spoiler: he’s been a reaper for who knows how long, and so he easily beats her.]] She’s lucky to have been able to escape.

* DeathOfAChild: Thankfully not shown, but the first case that Chase and Scarlet investigate is of a missing boy. [[spoiler: His mother killed him.]]
* DeliberatelyMonochrome: The Discover version is in mostly black and white, with splashes of color (particularly red, but sometimes pink or other colors) here and there for effect.
* DistinguishingMark: Scarlet has a scar on her mouth. It’s what causes Chase to almost arrest her on the spot, were it not for her confusion and memory loss.
* DontFearTheReaper: If you're not a sinner, Scarlet probably won't bother you. Averted for sinners though. Also, there's a cool panel where the exact words are spray painted in red on a wall right behind Scarlet's head.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: Averted. Chase’s past relationship with a {{tsundere}} is portrayed very seriously, and the abuse and the effects on him are not played for laughs at all. Even Scarlet is disturbed by it.

* EvenEvilHasStandards: Possibly. Satan claims that the worst sinner was so bad [[spoiler: he had to kill her himself.]]
* EyeColorChange: Symbolically. The characters' eyes sometimes turn red, such as when Scarlet shows more BloodKnight tendencies, and when Chase starts to get angry at a suspect [[spoiler: who killed her own son.]]
* FaceDeathWithDignity: Played with. The woman who [[spoiler: killed her son was killed too quickly for her to even react, but she accepts her punishment in hell with grace.]]

* MistakenForRomance: Chase’s DND friends think Scarlet’s his girlfriend, since when they meet her she was at his place before he was. He denies it, but she takes the opportunity to troll him.

* MrFanservice: Played for laughs. Scarlet walks in on Chase changing his shirt at one point. He gets embarrassed, while she doesn’t care.

* ObfuscatingStupidity: Chase is likely doing this. Scarlet can’t tell if he’s smart or an idiot.
* OhCrap: Scarlet, when [[spoiler: Brook tears off her arm easily.]]

* RealityEnsues: In high school, Chase fell for a {{tsundere}} and they started dating. The relationship turned abusive and didn’t work out.
* RedOniBlueOni: Played with in regards to Scarlet and Chase. Scarlet usually resembles the red, not only due to her colors but because she’s a BloodKnight who kills sinners, and can be reckless at times. Chase usually resembles the blue for tending to be more cautious, and being a detective and therefore mostly on the right side of the law. However, during their questioning of the woman with a missing son, they briefly switch: Chase asks Scarlet to hold onto his gun for him, and it’s a good thing he did; [[spoiler: he got angry enough at the woman to reach out to his gun holster, likely meaning to shoot her. Scarlet is the one to get him to leave and distract him.]]

* ScarsAreForever: Scarlet is relatively unmarked on her death, except for a small scar on her mouth. Later, she finds out [[spoiler: she has scars all over her chest and stomach.]]
* SceneryPorn: The backgrounds are a cool mix of photos and drawings, at least in the Discover version. The signs are also edited to have ominous messages that match the edgy mood.
* ShipTease: Primarily Scarlet and Chase. First, he lies that she's his [[ClingyJealousGirl girlfriend]] to explain why they're handcuffed together (ItMakesSenseInContext), and then his DND friends mistake her for his girlfriend upon meeting her. Their consistent banter can also be read as BelligerentSexualTension.
* ShirtlessScene: Played for laughs when Scarlet walks in on Chase changing his shirt. He gets flustered while she couldn’t care less.
