* AbusiveParents: Raditz never received much affection from Bardock growing up due to Saiyan values lacking anything in the way of traditional child-rearing standards, and when Bardock is brought back to life by Fortuneteller Baba, he proceeds to subject his son to a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown while mocking him. The latter case is admittedly somewhat understandable, as Bardock had found out that Raditz had abandoned Kakarot to Frieza's forces to save his own skin after Bardock explicitly entrusted Raditz with Kakarot's safety.
* AdaptationalBackstoryChange:
** Bulla is now the daughter of Raditz and Bulma, rather than Vegeta and Bulma. She takes the place of Future Trunks.
** Due to him being a significant player on Earth, Raditz is part of Cell's DNA, and with him also having a more conniving Krillin, this makes Imperfect Cell even more crafty than before.
* AdaptationalBadass:
** Kakarot and Raditz both become significantly stronger than they were originally due to training and different environments. By the time of the Buu saga, they have the Mastered Super Saiyan 2 form that Future Trunks had in the ''Super'' manga.
** Nappa is significantly stronger, as well, able to go toe-to-toe with Dodoria for a short time to allow Kakarot a chance to escape.

* AdaptationalNameChange:
** Much like in ''Fanfic/WhatIfGineWentWithGokuToEarth'', canonical lack of a name change, since Kakarot is left with the Frieza force, he never gets his name changed to Goku. Raditz, being old enough to talk, doesn't get a name change by Grandpa Gohan, either.
** Instead of being named Gohan after Grandpa Gohan, the first-born son of Kakarot and Chi-Chi instead goes by the Saiyan name Kyarro, due to Grandpa Gohan surviving and Kakarot not being as close to him, since it was Raditz who had him as his adoptive father. The name is derived from ''kyarotto ke-ki'' (the Japanese pronunciation of "carrot cake"), which [[FamilyThemeNaming references both of his parents]] since carrot cake contains both carrots and milk.
** Instead of being named Goten, Kakarot and Chi-Chi name their second son Jarga, which is a pun on the Indian drink Gajar Ka Doodh. Like with Kyarro, the name references both parents, as the drink is a mixture of, among other things, pureed carrots and milk.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy:
** Raditz, having been raised by Grandpa Gohan, became a much nicer and cordial individual than he had been in the source material, though he's still [[ArrogantKungFuGuy temperamental and cocky.]]
** Nappa is a protective [[ParentalSubstitute surrogate father]] to Kakarot, doing his best to keep the wrath of [[BadBoss Vegeta]] away from him, teaching him how to speak and training him to get stronger so he can stand up for himself.
* AmazonianBeauty: Bando is described as looking like Bulma, but much more muscular. Her thumbnail art in Part 18 shows some ''very'' toned arms.
* BadBoss: Though Vegeta was this in the source material pre-HeelFaceTurn, here he's this in spades. Due to his own InferioritySuperiorityComplex, the [[EstablishingCharacterMoment first thing he does]] when faced with a ''toddler'' Kakarot is beat him senseless, making [[EvenEvilHasStandards Nappa intervene]]. * CainAndAbel: A bit of a role switch compared to canon when Kakarot found out the truth of why he was left behind. Neither brother is exactly evil though, [[spoiler:but it is evident that Kakarot has much scorn towards his own brother for abandoning him to save his own hide]].
* ChickMagnet: Being a tall and muscular young man, Raditz manages to catch the attention of Bulma, Chi-Chi, and Launch.
* CreateYourOwnVillain: [[spoiler:Downplayed in that it's more of a rivalry with bad blood, but Raditz gets an opponent in his brother, Kakarot, as a result of Raditz abandoning Kakarot to Frieza's forces in order to keep himself from being arrested.]]
* CurbStompBattle: Kakarot punches Vegeta in the gut and then breaks his arm in payback to the abuse Vegeta had put him through when he was young.
* CurbStompCushion: First form Frieza manages to rough up Kakarot and Raditz before they both go Super Saiyan. Frieza's too shocked at seeing ''two'' of the legendary beings and gets killed by a Double Double Sunday before he can transform.
* DeathByAdaptation:
** Mercenary Tao gets outright killed by Raditz during their first encounter, since Raditz is significantly stronger than Goku was.
** Instead of Krillin getting killed by Tambourine, [[spoiler:Krillin joins Tambourine and kills Bulma, stealing her Dragon Radar]].
** Launch gets turned into Majin Launch and gets grimly and cruelly blown up by Babidi in an attempt to kill Kakarot.

Raditz's impulse to save himself in times of danger ends up being something he has to wrestle with.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Master Shen is actually somewhat perturbed by just how much of a conniving cheater Krillin has become under his tutelage. However, he pushes these thoughts aside due to Krillin achieving more victories in the World Martial Arts Tournament than Roshi's pupil.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: Grandpa Gohan explicitly requested Raditz to not have his life extended artificially, saying that if fate decreed that he die soon, then so be it. Raditz tearfully complies.
* FaceHeelTurn: [[spoiler:Krillin joins Tambourine and King Piccolo due to his jealousy of Raditz.]]
* HeroicBuild: Future Bulla is sulking while in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber after getting the Super Saiyan Grade 3 form saying it seems useless. It doesn't help that Raditz and Kakarot are laughing their ass off at how she looks. Raditz then cheers her up by transforming into it himself and starts posing like a bodybuilder, which makes her laugh.
* HeroicSacrifice: Android 16 blows himself up [[spoiler:to kill Imperfect Cell]].
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Raditz beat up Krillin during their sparring matches under Master Roshi because Krillin wouldn't stop making perverted comments towards Bulma. It's only when Raditz and Krillin fight during the World's Martial Arts Tournament that Raditz finds out that Krillin perceived Raditz's beatdowns as Raditz lording his strength over him, which genuinely catches the Saiyan off-guard.
* IgnoredEpiphany: Roshi defeats Krillin in the World Martial Arts Tournament in a manner meant to dissuade Krillin from continuing his cheating ways. Unfortunately, Krillin only took the defeat as a sign that he needed to get stronger [[spoiler:and he ends up joining forces with Tambourine and King Piccolo.]]

** Despite having been abandoned by his brother, forcibly inducted into Frieza's army at a young age, and routinely beaten by Vegeta, Kakarot is still [[ThePollyanna as optimistic as ever.]] [[ParentalSubstitute Nappa]] and [[TheCorrupter Frieza]] see this as a good thing, for varying reasons[[note]]Nappa thinks it's important that at least ''one'' of them still has hope to hold onto. * HonoraryUncle: Nappa takes on this role after taking Kakarot under his wing, being referred to as "Uncle Nappa". He also doubles as Kakarot's ParentalSubstitute.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Raditz is cocky and impulsive, but he cares deeply about his friends and adopted homeworld.
* KidFromTheFuture: "Bando", AKA Future Bulla is the person to come back in Future Trunks' stead.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Vegeta, after having his attacks effortlessly blocked by Kakarot, decides to spin it as a SecretTestOfCharacter before [[VillainExitStageLeft hastily fleeing]].
* LaserGuidedKarma:
** Kakarot, Raditz and Nappa all send Vegeta to be a fighter for the Nediyani Galactic, which is where Kakarot had to fight while hiding from the Frieza force.
** [[spoiler:After she killed Androids 17 and 18 while they were still in their pods and [[NoSympathy showed no remorse]], even after being called out on it, Future Bulla gets absorbed by Cell in the next episode]].
* LazyBum: Jaco manages to track down Raditz to Gohan's house. But, not wanting to deal with having to detain a Saiyan, he claims he needs to do the "paperwork" to properly arrest Raditz and leaves him in Gohan's care.
* MeetTheInLaws: Bulla and Kyarro introduce their partners Sharpner and Erasa, respectively to their parents in Part 25. It goes well and both sets of parents are alright with them, though Sharpner is a little intimidated by Raditz's size and bluster.
* MrFanservice: Bulma definitely sees the tall, strapping Raditz as this.
* MyGreatestFailure: Raditz beats himself up mentally and then when Bardock is temporarily brought back by Baba, physically for years for abandoning Kakarot to the Frieza force. When he confesses this to Kakarot and Kakarot rejects him, Raditz turns Super Saiyan for the first time out of grief and self-loathing.
* MythologyGag: When Raditz comes out of the shower in just a towel, Bulma looked at his abs and thought "[[WebVideo/DragonBallZAbridged You could grind meat on those!]]"
* NextTierPowerUp: {{Invoked|Trope}} by Raditz. When he gets his hands on the titular Dragon Balls, he wishes for Kakarot to be strong and for no harm to come to him.

** Because Raditz didn't let the auto-function of the pods do their job and tried to pilot it manually. Frieza's forces detect Kakarot and his pods, resulting in him leaving Kakarot behind and Kakarot being captured by the Frieza forces.
** In what had seemed to be LaserGuidedKarma, by sending him off to Nediyani Galactic, they stripped Vegeta of his one hallmark: {{Pride}}. This ends up making him very dangerous in that the ''only'' thing he wants now is ''revenge''.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: Android 19, who is still in it's [[invoked]][[ObviousBeta early stages of development]], tries absorbing Raditz' energy. Instead, it malfunctions and ''gives'' Raditz energy, basically forcing him to turn into Super Saiyan 2.
* NiceGuy: Grandpa Gohan, naturally. He takes Raditz in and allows him to live with him for several months even after learning he's a decendant of AlwaysChaoticEvil {{Space Pirate}}s.
* NoChallengeEqualsNoSatisfaction:
** Raditz was initially intrigued by Jaco chasing him, but loses interest when he realizes Jaco is too lazy to do his job properly.
** When given the chance to wish on the Dragon Balls, Raditz briefly considers wishing to become stronger. He decides against it due to already being strong, and wanting a challenge.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown:
** When looking for the final Dragon Ball and going to Fortuneteller Baba to get it, instead of bringing back Grandpa Gohan, who is still alive in this timeline, she brings back Bardock. Bardock isn't proud of his son after he admits to leaving Kakarot behind to say the least, and mercilessly beats and mocks Raditz.
** Raditz subjects Krillin to this [[spoiler:after Krillin kills Bulma. Raditz methodically beats him to a pulp before vaporizing him]].
* NormalFishInATinyPond: Raditz discovers that he's actually fairly strong by the standards of most Earth's beings. The fact that his power, which was dismissed on his home planet for being rather meager, could be of use on Earth is one of the reasons he develops an attachment to the planet.
* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler:Raditz gets together with Bulma and marries her, later. Kakarot naturally gets together with Chi-Chi, as well.]]
* OhCrap: Bulla and Bulma when they find that something (strongly implied to be Cell) took Androids 17 and 18 from the underground vault Bulma had them in by digging through several hundred feet of rock and dirt and a reinforced concrete wall.
* ParentalSubstitute:
** With a baby Kakarot being captured by Frieza, Nappa ultimately takes over the guardianship of the lad and is considerably more level-headed than Vegeta, who took out all of his pent up anger on him.
** Grandpa Gohan takes on a parental role to Raditz rather quickly, caring for him and training him. [[LoveRedeems This is what leads him to be a much better person than in the source material]].

** The reason why Raditz wasn't initially off-planet with Prince Vegeta like in the original story is because... he came down with a tummy bug and had to stay home. Raditz feels appropriately embarrassed.
** As a result of Kakarot's presence, Vegeta becomes much more short-tempered and prone to lashing out. Nappa becomes more willing to argue and stand against him in order to protect Kakarot.
** Due to their similar ages, Raditz and Bulma become a couple. Raditz gets to use the Dragon Balls and wishes for Kakarot to become stronger.
** Krillin and Raditz do not get along, ultimately leading to Krillin abandoning Roshi and joining the Crane Hermit as a pupil.
** Raditz loses his fight against Krillin. He takes this as a lesson in humility and works to improve.
* {{Retcon}}: At first Masako misremembered that Zarbon had stayed behind with Frieza and Dodoria alone was killed to having Zarbon killed alongside Dodoria, before correcting himself in episode 11 that Zarbon is still alive.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Unlike in canon with Goku, Krillin doesn't get along with Raditz ''at all'' while they're training under Roshi and eventually gets fed up enough to demand either Raditz goes or he does. Roshi refuses, citing Krillin had more then enough time to make peace with Raditz but didn't and if he feels that way, then he's not stopping him. Krillin acts on his word and leaves Roshi's training.
* ShipTease: As a result of being older than Goku, Raditz's first encounter with Bulma ended up resulting in BelligerentSexualTension ensuing. [[spoiler:By part 5, they become a couple.]]
* ShoutOut:
** After commenting on how her car took more damage than Raditz when he was hit, he comments "[[Film/MontyPythonAndTheHolyGrail 'Tis but a scratch!]]"
** When Roshi first greets Raditz with a "Hello there!", Masako barely manages to stop himself from making a [[Memes/RevengeOfTheSith "General Kenobi!"]] reference.
* SpaceX: Raditz asks Shin if he's "chopped space liver" When Shin ignores Raditz
* SparedByTheAdaptation: Jaco gives Grandpa Gohan a heads up to not let Raditz look at the moon. Raditz eventually tells Gohan of his Oozaru transformation, so Gohan ends up avoiding his original fate.
* SuperMode: Raditz gets decent control of his Oozaru form at a young age.
* SuperSpeed: Raditz is able to run as fast as a car while jogging with Bulma on his shoulders. He's later able to use it to grab Roshi's dragon ball before Roshi notices.
* TalkingTheMonsterToDeath: King Piccolo wishes for immortality from Shenron, so no matter how much Raditz beats him to a pulp Piccolo will always get back up. Raditz switches tactics and reveals to the demon king that he's actually a Namekian. This sends Piccolo into an existential crisis, leaving Kakarot free to seal him with the Mafuba.
* TokenHeroicOrc:
** Due to Raditz having made it to Earth instead of Kakarot, Raditz becomes this due to his tutelage under Grandpa Gohan.
** Played With in regards to Kakarot and Nappa. They both work under the genocidal space emperor, Frieza, though on the other hand Kakarot [[AmbiguousInnocence isn't actively malicious and doesn't seem to understand that what he's doing is wrong]], and Nappa [[AdaptationalNiceGuy isn't sadistic like he is in the source material]].
* TookALevelInBadass: Raditz uses his wish on the Dragon Balls to make Kakarot stronger, bringing his power level up to 2000.
* UnskilledButStrong: King Cold is portrayed like this. He may be stronger than Super Saiyan Kakarot and Raditz individually, but they had a lot more martial arts training and experience than Cold, who had almost none. [[BashBrothers They also worked well as a team]], despite having been estranged for years.
* WhatTheHellHero: When Fortuneteller Baba brings Bardock back to life and has him face Raditz, Bardock wastes no time royally laying into his son both verbally and physically over Raditz abandoning Kakarot to Frieza's forces to avoid being arrested.
* WhosLaughingNow: Krillin twofold in this continuity. Krillin ends up abandoning Master Roshi in favor of the Crane school due to not getting along with Raditz, who made his own mutual disdain known by repeatedly beating down Krillin whenever they sparred. Krillin proceeds to not only beat up his bullies from his old monastery in the World Martial Arts Tournament but also Raditz.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Grandpa Gohan, upon learning how ashamed Raditz is of his very un-Saiyan-like nature, assures him that it's a ''good'' thing he's different from other Saiyans.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Shen just disappears after the 22nd World Martial Arts tournament.

[[folder:''What If Babidi Turned Good?'']]
* BackstabBackfire: While Super Buu is regenerating, Babidi attempts to betray Piccolo and regain control of Buu. It fails, resulting in Babidi being impaled on a rock.
* BequeathedPower: It's revealed Babidi's power wasn't his own, but the spell Bibidi used to make him resulted in his power transferring to Babidi upon Bibidi's demise. When Babidi starts mellowing out, the same spell transfers his magic to one of his 'siblings' who he was unaware of.
* BeYourself: Piccolo gives Babidi this advice: he's so busy trying to follow his father's goal that he's never been his own person, so try to let go of it and become his own person. This includes learning magic himself instead of relying on the power his father allowed him to have.
* BigBad: Bebidi, Babidi's 'sibling', becomes the main antagonist, having awakened and gained Bibidi's power from Babidi when the latter mellowed out to the point the spell that made them both decided Babidi was no longer worthy of it. His goals eventually turn towards finding [[SealedEvilInACan Moro]].
* ButtMonkey: ''Nobody'' respects Babidi after the Buu Saga.
* CloneAngst: As in canon, Babidi is a doppelganger Bibidi created that managed to survive. A ''lot'' of his issues come from this, especially when he started to see himself as a failure to his father. It turns out there were actually a ''lot'' of others, but he's seemingly the only one to survive.
* DePower: Babidi's slow shift of morality results in Bibidi's rules of his creation activating another doppelganger and transfering his powers to them instead.
* DiesDifferentlyInAdaptation: Kid Buu is destroyed by a combination attack by Goku, Vegeta and Good Buu.
* DramaticIrony: Babidi explains he is the reincarnation of his father and only continuing his plans. He then claims there's no way someone like Piccolo could understand that.

* FreudianExcuse: Babidi is a clone of his father who defined himself as his creator's heir and continuing his plan, some of which was preprogrammed by Bibidi. He grew up alone on an abandoned planet on which he was made.
* GoodFeelsGood: Babidi starts to somewhat enjoy receiving appreciation he gets from doing good deeds at Piccolo's demand, even if he's still not happy about it.
* HeelFaceTurn: While it takes a ''long'' time, Babidi does genuinely begin to warm up to the Z-Fighters and begin to actually care about them and the Earth, even if he won't admit to it.
* TheMentor: Babidi begins to teach Dende in magic, and proves surprisingly good at the role. As Masako points out, someone probably should've done this a lot sooner.
* NoSell: Piccolo is the one largely acting as Babidi's handler, as his meditation and self-control lets him shrug it off his mind manipulation spells.
* NotWorthKilling: Goku convinces Fat Buu that Babidi isn't worth killing.
* OhCrap:
** Babidi has one when he sees Super Buu, realizing just how much more dangerous and uncontrollable this version is.
** And again when he sees Beerus. Then another when Beerus focuses on him and recognizes what he is.
* PastLifeMemories: Running into Beerus causes Babidi to experience a large flash of Bibidi's memories, including that Bibidi had met Beerus before.
* PointOfDivergence:
** Goku intervenes and tells Buu that Babidi is NotWorthKilling while also telling Buu not to cause trouble until Gotenks shows up. Buu injured Babidi's throat, meaning Babidi can't use his magic and Goku captures Babidi.
** Babidi manages to hold Kid Buu in place with his magics just long enough for Goku, Vegeta, and Good Buu to destroy him, preventing Earth from being destroyed.
** Babidi catches Frost's poison needle trick when before Piccolo's fight with him. He warns Piccolo about it, and Piccolo manages to expose and defeat him rather than losing.
* SealedEvilInACan: Babidi gets sealed away by the Evil Containment Wave, though was still able to talk to Piccolo. He's let out after Super Buu comes into being.
* SparedByTheAdaptation:
** Goku intervenes right as Buu prepares to kill Babidi, thus saving the wizard.
** Babidi interferes with Kid Buu's attempt to blow up the world, thus preventing its destruction.
* SupportPartyMember: Babidi's no mainline fighter, but his intelligence and spells let's him figure out things, create barriers, and he eventually develops a number of buff spells to power the Z-Fighters up or debuff their enemies.
* SympathyForTheDevil: Babidi reveals he's basically his father's {{Reincarnation}} tasked with continuing his evil plans, Piccolo feels a degree of sympathy for him, due to having the same exact origin. This seems to be one of the reasons he spares Babidi after Kid Buu is killed.
* TakingTheBullet: Babidi grows close enough to Piccolo and Gohan to try and protect them from Frieza's death beam instead of Piccolo.
* TookALevelInBadass: Babidi training with magic books makes him regain a good bit of his power and possibly getting even stronger, enough for him to contribute to the 1000 Frieza trooper battle meaningfully. His forcefields even manage to resist Frieza's death beams, at least for a moment. He had to resort to spellbooks in order to do it, but it at least let's him actually use magic properly.
* YourHeadASplode: Babidi, glad to finally have an excuse to fully cut loose on Freiza's troops, starts making their heads explode.

[[folder:''What If Turles Turned Good?'']]
* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: Turles' backstory is changed enough that he hero worshipped Bardock and styled his hair like Bardock's, but was exiled from Planet Vegeta and only survives the planet's destruction by refusing to follow Frieza's order to return. While out in space, he then meets the Heaters who rescue & recruit him after his Saiyan pod is almost out of fuel.
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance:
** The Heaters show up far earlier in this What-If by rescuing Turles when his pod had been sabotaged. They end up nursing him back to health and recruiting him as a mercenary and
also introducing the Tree of Might.
** Tights shows up earlier in the franchise, meeting Turles when he stops by her garage. They end up in a relationship.
* AdaptationExpansion: Turles and the Crusher Corps' backstories are all expanded on & changed to fit modern Dragon Ball, drawing from bits of obscure lore made for the movies.
* AnArmAndALeg: Turles loses his right arm due to Krillin's Kienzan during his attack on Earth. He gets a prosthetic which has to be replaced and upgraded multiple times because it can't handle the amount of power that Turles can unleash.
* BackFromTheDead: Turles and Amond are wished back from the dead
* CharacterDevelopment: Turles goes from an amoral space pirate but becomes a somewhat aloof but caring man who tries to protect everyone he cares for. He's also willing to step up and be a parent to his child, when in the past he would have just ignored his kid like most Saiyan parents.

After losing to Android 17, Bulma and Dr. Briefs upgrade his mechanical parts further using technology derived from Dr. Gero's work. After training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for a year with Sauza, he's able to fight evenly with Cell while in his 5th form and later notes he can feel a new transformation coming, but his robotic parts were holding him back and Cell targeted those to damage them during their fight. He gets regenerated due to improved healing tanks, regrowing his lost limbs and other missing parts, as well as a sixth form in part 15. After Elec leaks information to him that Dabura and Babidi were going to bring back Majin Buu, Cooler is eager to try out his new form on them.
** Possibly Androids 17 and 18, as well, since 18 defeated Vegeta significantly quicker than canon and 17 handily defeats Cooler.

Even after Sauza is his last remaining member of the Armored Squad, Cooler allows him to object to his orders and speak out against him without consequence, as he knows it comes from a place of genuine loyalty.
* BloodKnight: Cooler gradually finds the challenge Goku and the stronger Z-Fighters exciting, as he'd never actually faced an actual challenge.

** Likewise, the only two beings King Cold told his sons to never mess with are Lord Beerus and Majin Buu, something Cooler also abides by.
** While not to Beerus and Majin Buu's degree, Cooler and his family ''are'' aware and wary of 'PlanetEater' Moro. They avoid open conflict with the Galactic Patrol because they don't want to risk the ancient sorcerer [[SealedEvilInACan escaping his prison.]]
* EnemyMine:
** Cooler joins up with the Z team to fight the Androids, mainly because he wants to [[TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou be the one to defeat Goku.]]
** Cooler agrees to help deal with Cell because if Cell gets too strong, he'll become a threat to his empire. That and he's offended that his family's genes were used to create the monster.
** After Super Perfect Cell kills Future Trunks and injures Gohan and Vegeta, Cooler goes to help Gohan fight Cell.
** Cooler goes back to Earth when he learns that Majin Buu is going to be released . He later fights alongside Goku, Gohan and Vegeta against Buu, then helping train Trunks and Goten so they can fuse.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Cooler is introduced putting down a rebellion...with only as much force and death as absolutely necessary, offering his enemies a chance to surrender, fighting on the frontlines with his troops, praising them for a job well done, and even remembering their homeplanets' original names. This establishes that while still a villain, Cooler is much less malevolent than his family and much more pragmatic.

** Cooler is noticably less evil than his brother and father, as he views their rampent cruelty as FascistButInefficient and is of the opinion a BenevolentBoss is less likely to face rebellion from their subjection.
** Cooler objects to Frieza's Saiyan genocide on the grounds that the Saiyans have been extremely useful to the empire and wiping them out over a fairytale is an exceedingly stupid decision on his brother's part.
** Cooler refuses to violate Goku's trust and kill him in ambush, as he comes to respect the Saiyan and want a fair rematch with his WorthyOpponent.
** When Sauza voices his complaints and had undergone SanitySlippage while in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Cooler changes their training regimen from Sauza being a punching bag to more of a mentor-student dynamic and begin analyzing Goku's fighting style, since Cell knows the same techniques as Goku.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Cooler can't comprehend why the Z-Fighters haven't already taken over the world upon realizing even the humans among them could effortlessly do so without even trying.
* EyeScream: Cooler headbutts Semi-Perfect Cell and then when Cell smirks when it doesn't do much, Cooler uses his [[EyeBeam eye beams]] to blind Cell. While Cell does regenerate, it does temporarily blind him and gives Cooler enough time to grab Piccolo and for Goku to teleport them out.
* FascistButInefficient: Cooler objects to how his father and brother run things, as he views their unneeded cruelty and rampent expansion as detrimental from a pragmatic perspective. Cooler himself avoids this, and is generally a BenevolentBoss to his loyal minions.
* FrontlineGeneral: Cooler makes it a point to fight alongside his army when possible, as he feels it's good for motivating them and ensuring loyalty.
* TheGadfly: After the initial awkwardness, Cooler started having "a bit of morbid fun" in the situation of him and Sauza eating at Goku's house. He jokes about having Chi-Chi potentially become a chef in his army and teases Gohan (and Chi-Chi) about their belief that he would never have to fight Cell. [[IdiotHero Goku was naturally clueless about the whole thing]].
* HistoryRepeats: Because of Buu becoming a threat, Cooler is unable to practice much with his newly-acquired Sixth-form. Cooler notes that he feels a little weaker after using his Sixth-form, so it's implied that he has the stamina issue that Freeza has with his 100% power and Golden Freeza forms because of not training in them. However, this proves not to be the case as he's able to fight Super Buu for ''hours'' using the form, albeit purely defensively.
* HonestAdvisor: Berryblue becomes this for Cooler in episode 5, fearlessly telling him what he needs to hear instead of what he wants to hear regarding his defeat at Goku's hands. He grudgingly admits that she is right and it helps Cooler sort himself out. He even leaves her in charge while he does so.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: Cooler gets impaled in the stomach by Android 17.
* InSpiteOfANail: Cooler arrives to help deal with Babidi and Dabura and is the one to kill Dabura, and despite, or perhaps because of their mutual enmity, keeps Vegeta from being turned into a Majin. However, Buu still gets released and even Sixth-form Cooler isn't able to do much to him.
* KarmicJackpot: Cooler being a BenevolentBoss and treating his men well ends up saving his life, as Sauza not only warns him and gives him a chance to avoid being hit by his own Supernova, but risks his life to rescue him and take him back to the Empire out of genuine UndyingLoyalty.

* LetsYouAndHimFight: After Cooler kills Android 19 and turns to Gero, Vegeta shows up and he and Cooler end up fighting, which allows Gero to escape and wake up Androids 16-18.
* MachiavelliWasWrong: Cooler views his family's focus on ruling by fear of their immense power as shortsighted and stupid. While he ''does'' see value in fear, he also goes out of his way to be a BenevolentBoss and abide by PragmaticVillainy, as he believes it ensures a more efficient army and cuts down on the possibility of rebellion.
* MoralityPet: Cooler comes to genuinely care about the Armored Squadron to the point of being careful not to accidentally kill them while training to obtain his Fifth Form. After being rebuilt as a cyborg, he makes sure to tell Sauza to get some real medical care. When he realizes he needs a sparring partner for the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, his first choice is Sauza.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou:
** Cooler's entire reason for [[EnemyMine joining forces with Goku]] against the Androids: he wants to be the one to beat him for both practical and personal reasons. It's also why he stops Android 19 from killing Goku because of this.
** This is what prompts Vegeta to attack Cooler (other than hating his entire family): Cooler has a rivalry with Goku and Vegeta already wants to be the one to beat Goku.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: King Cold is normally very calm and polite, but when Cooler calls him after the events of Planet Namek, he's extremely short tempered and verbally abusive towards Cooler. It ends up their last conversation.
* PragmaticVillainy:
** Even before his run in with Goku, Cooler was always much more pragmatic than his brother and father, treating his followers well, using the original names of their conquered planets, and only using as much force or killing as required to carry out his goals. Cooler finds this not only creates a more effective army, but helps cut down on the possibility of rebellion.
** Cooler is annoyed when Frieza blows up Planet Vegeta, as the Saiyans have been performing well and shown no sign of rebellion against them. He accuses Frieza of destroying an important resource over a fairytale.
** He avoids whole sell destruction, as he sees it as a waste of resources.
** King Cold and his family are aware of 'PlanetEater' Moro and know that, even weakened as he is, Moro is a threat they don't want running loose. So they avoid any direct confrontation with the Galactic Patrol, as they're [[SealedEvilInACan keeping Moro safely locked away.]]
** Cooler tries to warn King Cold not to rush blindly to Earth in order to avenge Frieza's defeat, on the grounds they have no idea what they're actually dealing with and could easily end up dead. Cooler, as canon shows, was right.
** Once Cooler is the Emperor, he massively slows down expansion and centralizes the empire, as he viewed his family's reckless expansion as inefficient and overextending their resources.
** Cooler agrees to help deal with Cell because if Cell wins, he might go into space and threaten him and his empire.
** After seeing the technological capabilities of Earth, Cooler agrees to spare it on the grounds their technology could be extremely useful to him.
** Cooler goes to hold off Semi-Perfect Cell and save Piccolo because he recognizes Piccolo as the strongest fighter they have.
** When he gets back to his HQ after helping to defeat Cell, he decides to make the Cooler force volunteer only and changes the planets names back to their original names. After seeing Earth's Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he also has scouts sent out to try and locate one of his own, much like how Frieza did to become Black Frieza.
* PredatorPastiche: Cooler's Sixth Form sounds like this with tentacle-like AlienHair noting to make it similar to the Third Form, but more close to the Fourth Form. Thumbnail art of later episodes confirm it.
* {{Pride}}: Cooler notes that Vegeta is too full of himself and being too full of yourself, as he learned first hand, can lead to your downfall in episode 8. Vegeta then lets Cell become Perfect Cell. Cooler notes that Cell now has Vegeta, Frieza and King Cold's ego, so he could be "grossly overconfident".
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Cooler is still evil, but he's also far more reasonable than his brother and father, including being a good boss to his men, fighting alongside them, and even being willing to peacefully meet Goku and speak with him. He's even willing to form an EnemyMine with the Z-Fighters if it benefits him or his empire.
** Angry as he was that Sauza attempted to try and kill him during his SanitySlippage, he forgave the transgression because he understood the anger that Sauza felt.
* RevengeBeforeReason:
** As in canon, Frieza and King Cold rush to Earth to take revenge for Frieza's defeat, despite Cooler's warnings it's a bad idea. Predictably, they both die.
** Defied by Cooler himself. After being defeated by Goku in their first fight, Cooler is quite willing to go converse with Goku and put their rematch on hold to deal with greater threats. He even starts to respect Goku and Piccolo. He later admits to Sauza that while he ''is'' angry about his loss, he's come to relish the idea of an actual ''challenge''.
* RocksFallEveryoneDies: Cooler contemplates simply blowing up the planet several times in episode 6.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Cooler fights on the front lines with his soldiers in contrast to Frieza, who always waited in the sidelines.
* SanitySlippage: Sauza starts undergoing one while in the Hyberbolic Time Chamber due to being exhausted mentally and physically by the place and the training they were going through. Being so much weaker than Cooler and for all intents and purposes being Cooler's punching bag also contributed and he even attempts to kill Cooler while he was meditating. This prompts Cooler to change the way they train after that.
* SiblingRivalry: Cooler and Frieza do ''not'' get along, and it's one reason Cooler rarely, if ever, goes back to the capital of the empire in part just to avoid being anywhere ''near'' Frieza, knowing he will just brag.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: Cooler and Sauza both survive the attack on Earth. Cooler gets his left side severely burned and his left hand and leg "destroyed", but he's far more intact than the end of ''Cooler's Revenge''.
* TheStarscream: Elec is planning to usurp Cooler and tries to sabotage his regeneration by hacking it, though Kikono is able to prevent this. Because they didn't have any proof, Cooler goes to the Heeters and threatens Elec's siblings to sew doubt among them when Elec shows no response to Cooler's threats. He tells Kikono and Berryblue that he'll kill Elec, but only when they have proof of him being a traitor, as the new "nicer" empire will look better for doing so.
* StupidEvil: Cooler views his family's sadism, cruelty, and BadBoss tendencies as dumb mistakes. Cooler is far more partial to PragmaticVillainy.
* SuperToughness: One of the reasons that Cooler volunteers to rescue Piccolo from Semi-Perfect Cell is that he's significantly more durable than Goku.
* UndyingLoyalty: Unlike the majority of Frieza's men who only follow him out of fear, Sauza's loyalty to Cooler is entirely genuine to the point he saves his life and shows genuine concern for his superior. This is because unlike his brother, Cooler is a BenevolentBoss. This does come into question in episode 9, when Sauza undergoes SanitySlippage from the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and the way they were training, with Sauza being, for all intents and purpose, Cooler's punching bag, with Sauza attempting to murder Cooler. Cooler starts to hold back more after that and changes their training regimen to be more like a mentor-student relationship, but does threaten to kill Sauza if he tries something like that again.
* VictoryIsBoring: Cooler admits to Sauza that he'd grown bored with his victory always being certain. The fact there are fighters on Earth that match or exceed him has revitalized him.
* VillainRespect:
** Cooler begrudgingly respects Goku because he went from a low class Saiyan to one of the most powerful beings in the universe all through hard work. This is because unlike [[BornWinner his brother]], he actually had to train and ''work'' for his power.
** While still mocking to him, Cooler respects Piccolo's bravery.
** Cooler develops a bit of respect for Bulma, comparing her to Berryblue.
** He also develops some for Gohan, after seeing his intense will while in Super Saiyan 2, telling him to keep up his training and let his more fiery side out more often, because Cooler may want to test Earth's mettle again in the future.
* WeHaveBecomeComplacent: Cooler's opinion of his father and brother, which is one reason he trained. Cooler realizes he himself had become complacent and it's one reason he forms an EnemyMine with the Z-Fighters.

** Piccolo and Krillin question Goku when he lets Sauza take the injured Cooler back to his ship and flee.
** Cooler and Krillin both question Goku giving Cell a Senzu bean.
* WorthyOpponent: While he's reluctant to admit it, Cooler acknowledges Goku is stronger than him and his family and has too much respect for him to just ambush and kill him.

But he ends up cutting contact with everyone except Bulma, as they don't like who he's become. Some of the surviving Dragon Team return to searching for New Namek, hoping to resurrect Goku, Piccolo and many others lost to the Androids.

# "What if Shenron was a Z-Fighter?": After being destroyed by King Piccolo, Shenron is resurrected by Kami into a human body to better understand humanity.
# "What If Kid Goku was Possessed by Zamasu?": Zamasu makes his wish on the Super Dragon Balls to change places with Son Goku. However he finds himself not in Goku's current body, but in the past where Goku is still a child living with Grandpa Gohan.
