** Confirmed in the Season 2 finale. Scott recalls that both Bernard and even Curtis previously went on Kribble Krabble and "never came back", which resulted in Betty being promoted to Head Elf.

[[WMG: Bernard was lying to Scott]]
The idea that the Clauses were written for Scott, and he's the first human Santa, seems to create plot holes with the movies. Why did Bernard wait 8 years to tell him about the Mrs Clause, leaving it until the last minute? Why does the Escape Clause exist at all, and what was the Hall of Snowglobes in the 3rd film? There's a simple explanation: Bernard fabricated the whole tale, in order to convince Scott to go back and be Santa again, explaining that it was his destiny, rather than just pot luck.

He’d been in charge for some time, but we all know Bernard would just as likely as Betty to put off his mandated vacation. He probably only went at all because Curtis forced him into it.

Tracey Morgan's Easter Bunny as seen in the season 2 trailer looks far more humanoid than the Easter Bunny seen in the second and third movies. Perhaps the old Easter Bunny was ready to step back and, seeing how successful Scott had been as Santa, decided to try the same thing to find his successor.

** Half-jossed. Cal seems to have gotten the bulk of Santa's magical powers. It's implied he's next in line to take over with Sandra as his partner.

** Confirmed. Scott is the first human Santa Claus, all previous ones were ethereal beings.

Given the complete shroud of secrecy around the "previous" Santa, it's possible that the Elves must maintain the timeline. Scott Calvin is destined to fall off the roof which sets him on his journey and causes good things to happen.

The elves talk freely among themselves about Santas from long ago, even referring to a "mad Santa" from the 14th century, yet nobody wants to talk about Scott's immediate predecessor or his wife (if he had one). It's like something happened that the elves don't like to discuss, even with Santa or Mrs. Clause themselves. Or maybe they're under standing orders from Bernard and his successors not to...

Adding WMG about the previous santa being Scott Calvin's Santa.

She has the initials "SC" - like her father, Scott, and Simon Choski. In addition, she can hear animals talk, like with the reindeer in the third episode. She's special in some way and is obviously fit for the job.

The Successus Clause appears to serve the same purpose as the Escape Clause, albeit without the RetGone implications of the latter. Most likely, after it was abused by Jack Frost, the elves (possibly even on the advice of Father Time) decided that the Escape Clause was too dangerous for their Santa exit clause to involve what was essentially time travel and rewriting history, so they opted to replace it with a more traditional retirement option instead
