The "Last Temptation" wasn't a mere fantasy; it actually occurred in the movie, with the "guardian angel" removing the crucifixion nails from Jesus and letting him down. Jesus actually goes through marrying Mary, getting a family, meeting Paul preaching (falsely) the resurrection of Jesus. Then when Peter ''et al.'' appear, Peter reveals the "guardian angel" who has been with him all this time to be [[spoiler:Satan]]. Jesus begs, curses, and screams, and God gives him a second chance.
