Sekiro died either in prison or in the battle versus Genichiro and any fantastical elements are out of him refusing to accept that he's failed his mission and condemned his young lord to being nothing more than either Ashina or eventual Sengoku Era victor Ieyasu's political puppet. The various endings reflect Sekiro's mental state as he finally stops fighting the inevitable.

* At the beginning of the story, it is clear that Sekiro isn't your average human [[note]]though this of course could be argued of simple severe trauma and parental neglect[[/note]] he doesn't instinctively shy away from pain, he has almost no emotion, and he is ''really'' good at making things not alive. Then in late game, [[spoiler: after a fetch quest and a ritual,]] he actually goes on to [[spoiler: kill beings both divine and unholy. Including the Divine Hair in two and half [[note]]if he is going to be born a new person, does that mean the old person "died"[[/note]] of the four endings.]]
* [[spoiler: in the best ending, Sekiro becomes human, when goes out to walk the world as the ''Human Hair's'' father]]

Nioh, Sekiro, and Bloodborne do not have canon links between one another.

[[WMG: Sekiro is a prequel to Bloodborne.]]
The game is concerned with immortality granting blood that [[spoiler: came from an otherworldly being which originated from the west.]]

[[WMG: The Great Shinobi Owl’s spirit owl is a [[VideoGame/{{Nioh}} Guardian Spirit]] ]]
Not only do both games take place during the end years of the Sengoku Era, but both have a rather similar aesthetic. The dragon’s heritage and the rejuvenating waters are probably the Ashina clan's answer to the Amrita used by the other larger warlords.

[[WMG:Building on the previous theory, Sekiro's Demon of Hatred, or as his Shura form from the Shura Ending, is the Watchdog of the Old Lords from ''Bloodborne'']]
We never actually do see [[spoiler:the Shura form of Wolf or his Demon of Hatred, and their appearance is only hinted at by the Sculptor's Demon of Hatred. The Sculptor's Demon of Hatred, however, should be reasonably close to the real thing, and it resembles a giant ape with orange fur, vaguely resembling an orangutan, which is what the Sculptor is strongly associated with. Wolf is strongly associated with a wolf, and symbolism attributes him to an actual wolf (such as him becoming Shura is symbolical to a lone wolf without a pack suffering psychological issues), therefore his Shura form or Demon of Hatred would follow along the lines of the Beast of Darkness from Berserk... something that the Watchdog of the Old Lords bears a striking resemblance to. More evidence that supports this is the fact that the Demon of Hatred largely utilizes fire, and has an arm made out of flames as the Sculptor lacked an arm, while the stuff is rolling off of the body of the Watchdog, and its legs start flaming when they are broken by the Hunter]].

What this all adds up to is that [[spoiler:the Watchdog of the Old Lords is either Wolf's Shura form or his Demon of Hatred, its bloodlust leading it to leave Japan and wander around the world, slaughtering everything it encounters in droves, until it stumbles upon the city of Yharnam during the Scourge epidemic. There, it slaughters droves of Scourge Beasts and quickly becomes [[Main/TheDreaded The Dreaded]] due to its power and ferocity in combat outstripping even the Scourge Beasts that resided within. It eventually enters the Chalice Dungeons, where it encounters [[Main/PlayerCharacter the Hunter]], who is forced to put it out of its misery before it hurts or kills anyone else]].

Given that most shinobi arts seem to be reactionary, built to counter something specific, and the fact that every other thrust attack in the game can be avoided pretty well in some capacity, it makes sense that shinobi would create some kind of technique specifically to counter other shinobi. In addition, Owl is the only boss that has a counter to shadowrush, and it is very easily countered by Wolf in return. The Mikiri seems to be intended to counter other shinobi.

[[WMG: This is the new Age of Fire.]]
It may be a whole new world with new rules, but it's bound to happen after Gwyn extended the last age far too long.
