This theory is that Knuckles' Chaotix is basically a BadFuture in which Robotnik defeated and roboticized Sonic, and it's up to Knuckles and Team Chaotix [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg (and Mighty)]] to save Sonic. Problem is, they need the Chaos Rings for this, and Robotnik already has one. Canonically, they fail to collect the other six, Robotnik secures his domination on Sonic's world, and sends the roboticized Sonic (dubbed Metallix) in the past, leading to Sonic CD and the modern games.
