The red pearls in that movie were actually solidified Archetype, and the reason Gamera protects humanity is because he's the only Kaiju who has truly become a physical being instead of an interdimensional alien, possibly because of ancient shenanigans. He will be the Yang to Godzilla's Yin, being a creature that was seemingly created out of the collective will of humanity or something abstract like that. His mere presence causes the Archetype to dispel, and he's able to fight off Godzilla multiple times. His design, in contrast to the odd, almost alien Godzilla, will also be much more recognizable and "Human."

* It's considered one of, if not ''the'', unquestionably worst ''Godzilla'' movies ever made. Besides that, Gabara is bizarrely portrayed as just a bully who happens to be a kaiju rather than any kind of real threat. It would be no real surprise if they decided to use a new name just to avoid criticism for using what is often considered a lame, unappealing monster when so many others could have been instead. So instead of leaving it on the sideline entirely, they gave it a new design ''and'' name, while keeping the core features (large forehead horn and electric abilities).
