WMG / Godzilla: Singular Point

Go To

Rodan will be a Heisei Gyaos expy in terms of role
While Rodan being noticeably smaller than Godzilla isn't at all uncommon outside of Final Wars or the Showa era, here it barely seems to edge past the size of the biggest real life pterosaurs; while also appearing in swarms. This sounds suspiciously similar to the Heisei Gamera Trilogy's gyaos, whom also went from roughly the size of their franchise's titular kaiju to being far smaller. But it carries an offset perk that some gyaos could still grow gigantic. Perhaps either by mutation or some other mechanic, an individual of the pterosaur species we see will rapidly grow in size and become Singular Point's Rodan proper?
  • From what we can tell, there are Rodans with both one and two crests. Perhaps the two-crested one is SP's "Alpha" Rodan?
    • The two-crested variant is caused by rapid evolution of the species and quickly supplants the original. However, they do not appear to grow in size.

The kaiju are interdimensional
Notice all the suspicious clouds of uncanny red mist surrounding many of the kaiju in stills and the trailer? Even the promo-image showing Godzilla himself depicts him on a red background. Perhaps some mechanism or accident tore a hole into an alternate world populated by kaiju (a "Planet of Monsters" if you will) and they then begin crossing over. It happened in the franchise before with the IDW comics.
  • Confirmed. The Red Dust, the raw material used to create Archetype substances, is what feeds them. The Dust is interdimensional and multiversal in nature and gives the kaiju the same ability. Godzilla in particular, being the concept of Godzilla, manifests a body from a higher dimension.

Rodan isn’t done mutating
Compared to the other designs, Rodan seems jarringly normal, with the only thing giving it away as Rodan being the two horns. What if that isn’t the final form? It might start as a flock of typical pterosaurs before one mutates into a more typical design.

The series will aim for a more "Earthly" tone.
From what we've seen, they're going for a more "down-to-earth" theme by having monsters that have been mutated by radiation. In addition, Jet Jaguar looks alot more clunky than his old Ultraman-inspired design of the 70s. We can infer from this that monsters with more fantastical origins like Mothra, King Ghidorah, Gigan, and Spacegodzilla will be absent.

As for other kaiju who could appear, these are the most-likely candidates based on this criteria:

  • Baragon
  • Varan
  • Maguma
  • Ebirah
  • Kamacurus
  • Kumonga
  • Oodako/The Giant Octopus
  • The Giant Condor
  • Gezora
  • Ganimes
  • Kamoebas
  • Megaguirus - Could be in an episode where her kind goes to war with the Rodans, and mankind is caught in the crossfire while Godzilla has to step in and restore balance. A dead Showa version of a meganulon, however, can be seen at the 47 second mark of the ending sequence.
  • Biollante - Could have the same origins as her Heisei counterpart, but without a human soul, thus making her a mindless monster instead of an Anti-Hero
  • Zilla - Could be in an episode where he appears in the United States and gets mistaken for Godzilla, only for the human leads to set the Americans straight, ending with Godzilla and Zilla having a fight longer than in Final Wars
  • MUTO - A bit of a stretch since Legendary Pictures owns the character, but one or two could appear in an episode loosely adapting the 2014 remake
  • Obsidius - Wouldn't it be cool to see him again? He could be an ancient lava monster awakened by the eruption of a volcano
  • Hedorah - Could be a result of a nuclear-powered warship having a mishap near the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, causing various toxic chemicals in it to react and form Hedorah.
    • The closest we get is a Hedorah-like creature emerging from Kumonga.
  • Mechagodzilla - Could be the second mech humans build after Jet Jaguar fails.
    • Half-confirmed at the end of episode 13.
  • MOGUERA - Could be Mechagodzilla's ranged support unit

Of course, the red mist seen in the teaser could be the work of aliens, meaning we could see Ghidorah, Gigan, Hedorah, Orga, maybe Megalon, and an alien Mechagodzilla.

  • This theory might've been jossed. The third (and most likely final) trailer seems to show what appears to be Hedorah fighting Kumonga.
  • Mostly Jossed, as most of these kaiju do not appear and radiation has little impact on the plot. The cause of mutation appears to be the Red Dust which is explicitly stated in the case of Godzilla.

This version of Godzilla will be heroic.
  • Considering his nightmarish new look and all of the synopsis' naming him the "hopeless future", this appears to be Jossed. Godzilla will most likely be the main antagonist.
  • Could possibly be true for a given extent of 'heroic,' as Godzilla notably ignores humans most of the time until they provoke him, whereas he instantly attacks and kills a Rodan the moment he sees it.
  • Definitely Jossed. Villainous may be a stretch, but he is not heroic at all. He is merely a living thing trying to survive, but his presence threatens the world. While not malicious, he is extremely destructive, and after humanity trying to fend him off for long enough begins preemptively assaulting JASDF forces.

Anguirus is going to be a benevolent kaiju

Anguirus is thus far the only kaiju who only attacks when provoked and seems fairly docile, and Anguirus has only ever been villainous when controlled (in his original appearance, he was explicitly opposing Godzilla and was the more benevolent kaiju).

  • By episode 6 this has been pretty much jossed, with Anguirus still being fairly docile until provoked, but not caring for the humans at all outside of curiosity when not provoked. He’s also quite destructive towards property. Also in the next episode where the harpoon is lodged into his head.
  • Actually, it might be true. Its heavily implied Angurius could see through time itself & so its believed could see its fate. But since its spike was needed to give the Wibbly Wobbly Timey Whimey Time Loop its Golden Ending, it basically performed a Heroic Sacrifice. If that's true that's peak benevolence disguised as a cool fight.

The penultimate episodes of the show will feature Godzilla Ultima and Salunga going head to head.
  • Salunga appears to be one of the only other monsters who has control of the red mist that plays a huge part in this show, and one of the humans even says that he and Godzilla are almost comparable in size and power. Combine that with the fact Godzilla's slowly making his way to wear Salunga is, and the mandrill kaiju is almost to the point of breaking free, this may be the big Behemoth Battle in the show.
    • Jossed as of Episode 12. Salunga and Godzilla are nowhere close to one another. The former is slowly making its way towards SHIVA in India while the latter is currently chilling at Tokyo station.

Salunga will kill Bela Bhan
  • Given that growl, he most likely has a grudge against the human. Perfect revenge would be Salunga impaling Bela and give a mocking smile.
    • Jossed when BB, his daughter, and Mei all survive to watch Salunga get gored a third and final time.

The anime will end in a Downer Ending
  • Godzilla will wipe out the military, destroy Jet Jaguar and kill several key members. The survivors would regroup and try to find another plan to take down the Monster King.
    • Mostly jossed. While Jet Jaguar did in fact die, it was more of a sacrifice instead so it wasn't killed.

Salunga could be another form of...
  • Bagan
  • Destroyah
  • Gryphon
  • King Ghidorah

There's more to Anguirus than has been let on.

The only other two kaiju who are single specimens are Godzilla and Salunga, both of which are exceptionally strong and seem set up for a major role. Anguirus's role isn't finished and there's more to him than there seems.

  • Semi-jossed in that the protag's started using one of its spikes to make a spear for their robot.

The next time the Orthogonal Diagnolizer is used against Salunga, it will fail or completely backfire.

It's noted the second time that Salunga actually broke out quicker than last time, and it took two of them to even incapacitate him this time, which implies he's becoming more and more resistant to it each time. Next time, it either won't work or Salunga will somehow turn it back on them. Perhaps his growing control of the red mist is part of this.

Godzilla was attempting to bend the laws of the universe

Based on the conversations between all the human characters, Archetypes are able to bend the laws of reality. Since Godzilla is able to produce Archetypes and manipulate them, this means he is able to change the universe in any way he wants. Although it's small-scale at first given how long it takes before he reached his final form but once he does, he'll be able to do it.

  • It would explain why Godzilla is able to cycle through transformations so quickly. He bended time and space.
  • It would also explain why Salunga has a 2-D appearance briefly, Godzilla's action is making Salunga part of the world.
  • If Godzilla hadn't been stopped sooner, the Orthogonal Diagnolizer would not have worked any more because Godzilla's law will make sure it doesn't.

Godzilla and Jet Jaguar will become allies

  • Like in their first outing together, Godzilla and JJ will team up to fight Mechagodzilla.
    • Jossed. Jet Jaguar sacrifices itself to weaken Godzilla.

Provided there is a continuation, the series will be Hijacked By MechaGodzilla

He will quickly dispose of Salunga and go toe to toe with Godzilla, possibly winning to show he's NOT fucking around. This will, of course, result in Godzilla coming back later and promptly whooping his ass, presumably with help since, much like Ghidorah, he's never beaten Mecha G without help.

Salunga wasn't named Gabara because Toho wanted to reinvent the creature and distance it from All Monsters Attack.
  • It's considered one of, if not the, unquestionably worst Godzilla movies ever made. Besides that, Gabara is bizarrely portrayed as just a bully who happens to be a kaiju rather than any kind of real threat. It would be no real surprise if they decided to use a new name just to avoid criticism for using what is often considered a lame, unappealing monster when so many others could have been instead. So instead of leaving it on the sideline entirely, they gave it a new design and name, while keeping the core features (large forehead horn and electric abilities).
