If Tropes come up, they are usually mocked immediately. ** Not really, if you think about it. I grant you, this school and its students have many deep and disturbing issues, which make school life much more difficult than it probably should be. The point is, who doesn't? While these particular students have more emotional trauma that we (God willing) will ever have to experience, every school and student in existence has issues of their own which make life more difficult. In that is, in a sense, what she was saying.

Growing restless with his unspecified but clearly shady job at the start of the story, Kazami Yuuji requests to be transferred into a normal school. Seeing as he has some emotional issues and a traumatic background, the most that could be accomplished was enrolling him in Mihama Academy, a closed learning environment established to nurture students who find themselves at odds with the world around them. There are only five other students, all of them girls from decently wealthy families who have similarly murky pasts. He quickly integrates himself into the class while the girls begin dropping little hints as to the reason they are in such a specialized and secluded school in the first place.
