The game follows an amnesiac spirit who has just awoken on the outskirts of a town called Outbound, which is populated by various other ghosts due to a serial killer. Unlike these other ghosts, the protagonist is able to manifest Figments, embodiments of their own emotions with great power. With the help of the locals, primarily a girl named Mary and her brother Michael the amateur detective, this Outbound Ghost must uncover the mysteries behind these deaths in order to help these spirits pass on to a true afterlife.

Following the game's release, legal issues with Digerati caused Conradical Games to disband and then reform as Radhood, whose first project under that name was the thematically similar shoot'em up roguelike ''Soul Stalker''.
