* IdiotBall: Mario grasps this at one point. When he beats the record at Star 'Stache Smash, he wins a special mushroom that is supposed to be the Invincishroom (Invincible Mushroom in the remake). However, this mushroom has a weird, unhealthy green color. The 3DS remake explains in the Bowser's Minions subplot that this mushroom was actually a Poison Mushroom that Bowser's minions mistook for the Invincible Mushroom. You would expect him to think that something's wrong with the mushroom, right? Nope. Mario decides to eat it immediately after, and as a result, he falls ill with Bean Fever, forcing Luigi to go find an antidote for him by himself, and just as he comes back with the cure for his brother, Peach gets kidnapped by Bowletta in front of him, as Mario is too weak from illness to stop her. Even considering how impulsive he can be at times, that was stupid of him to eat that mushroom without thinking, since he just got food poisoning, or worse. Next time, think twice before eating weird food, Mario!

* IdiotBall: Mario grasps this isn't an idiot, but he does something stupid at one point.point halfway through the game that changes everything. When he beats the record at Star 'Stache Smash, he wins a special mushroom that is supposed to be the Invincishroom (Invincible Mushroom in the remake). However, this mushroom has a weird, unhealthy green color. The 3DS remake explains in the Bowser's Minions subplot that this mushroom was actually a Poison Mushroom that Bowser's minions mistook for the Invincible Mushroom, and the mushroom that he wins in the remake is clearly a Poison Mushroom. You would expect him to think that something's wrong with the mushroom, it, right? This also has the consequence of Bowletta using Peach as a hostage, requiring Mario and Luigi to find the Beanstar's four pieces, reassemble it and deliver it to Fawful in exchange for her freedom, which ties to Prince Peasley suggesting a plan to give them a fake Beanstar... only for it to utterly fail, as Fawful realizes the plan and steals the real Beanstar from them, forcing them to improvise by having Luigi disguise himself as Peach to trick Fawful into letting her go and then take back the Beanstar. Even considering how impulsive he can be at times, that was stupid of him to eat that mushroom without thinking, since he just got food poisoning, or worse. Next time, think twice before eating weird food, Mario!

** Halfway through the game, it seems that the problem is solved. Cackletta has been defeated and Peach was warned of her plan before the start of the game, meaning that Cackletta's plan was failed before it even started. After escorting Peach to Little Fungitown, however, Mario's tendency to act without thinking ahead causes everything to go wrong, as after winning a minigame and receiving a weird mushroom as prize, he ignores how weird the mushroom looks and decides to eat it. This causes him to fall seriously ill, and this has serious consequences: while Luigi was gone finding an antidote for his sickness, Cackletta's spirit takes over Bowser's body and kidnaps Peach, who ends up becoming a hostage and can only be freed by finding all the four pieces of the Beanstar and give it to Cackletta, who is now known as Bowletta. In other words, Peach's capture and the unsuccessful attempt to trick Fawful with a fake Beanstar later on would have been avoided if Mario didn't stupidly decide to eat weird food.

** One of the Bros. will scream the other's name if he gets knocked unconscious during a battle.

** After Mario and Luigi put the Beanstar back together, they get a message from [[spoiler:Bowletta]], where they want Mario and Luigi to hand the Beanstar over to them at Joke's End in exchange for Princess Peach's freedom. After the message is done, Prince Peasley proposes to use a fake replica of the Beanstar to give to the baddies to trick them without giving up the real deal. Unfortunately, Fawful sees through the trick, knocks out Luigi when he shows the fake Beanstar, and steals the real one from him. The question here is, why bring the real Beanstar in the first place?
