** The [=SegWaves=] podcast has the hosts talk about everything from [[VideoGame/{{Shenmue}} a kid going around asking about sailors]], [[VideoGame/SuperMonkeyBall monkeys rolling around in hamster balls]], and an [[VideoGame/OutRun Italian sportscar speeding on the highway]].

* TakeThat: The substory "Samurai, May We Walk Together?" is this towards Americans who only enjoy Japanese culture on a superficial level without actually knowing anything about the country or its people. Nathan and his friends expect Ichiban to eat cold rice over Hawaiian food, wear a fukaamigasa instead of using an umbrella when it rains, use shuriken to play darts, commit seppuku or yubitsume when he loses, and snorkel using a bamboo shoot. All because he's Japanese. Fortunately, the substory also makes the point that there's nothing wrong with Westerners enjoying Japanese culture in and of itself so long as they truly understand and appreciate it beyond what they perceive to be "cool".

** Following the last game's Film/Oldboy2003 motifs like Ichiban's crazy hair and mysterious imprisonment, [[spoiler:the events of the game are ultimately an extremely elaborate revenge plot funded by a massively wealthy man that goes far beyond what's necessary to avenge a dead family member by giving those he holds responsible a FateWorseThanDeath. It relies on framing the protagonists to look like deranged murderers, giving them apparent allies, and careful planning. You confront him in a giant skyscraper, and Kiryu tearfully begs for forgiveness and mercy, just like Dae-su, albeit without the incest.]]
