VideoGame/HonorOfKings is a MultiplayerOnlineBattleArena developed by [=TiMi=] Studio Group and published by Creator/TencentGames for the Chinese mobile platform. The game is set in ImperialChina, with characters based off of famous Chinese historical figures. Released in 2015, it has become the most popular mobile game in China, with over 100 million daily active players. While at first it looked a bit like a VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends (even aesthetically, as the map looked similar and there are bushes), the game differs from both this and the other mobile MOBA, VideoGame/Vainglory: It uses a virtual analog pad to move the characters, thereby allowing a gameplay that is viewed like League, but controlled with something similar to VideoGame/Smite (just without the 1st person view).

In the land called Continent of Kings, Gods descended and created humanity (mostly by the Goddess that created mankind, Nu Wa). They added an extra bonus: Arc Core, which can unlock humanity's hidden potential in a rapid speed, as it has the power to create and destroy in equal power. Civilization began to rapidly advance, but there are many who grew greedy and desired more of the power of the Arc Core, while some believes that such power cannot be given to other people willy-nilly so safeguards it. The conflict eventually escalate into two groups: The ones who seek to claim the core and those who seek to protect it, eventually attracting various figures from various timelines of Ancient China and some outside interferences...

China) also rose with their own history in this particular verse. The Arc Core power also attracted one particular side-effect: Demons roam the realm and preyed upon the innocents, so the two sides still fought over the core's powers in order to either repel the demons, or use it for personal gains.

The game is quite simplified from every other MOBA. First off, there are no wards or fog of warTechnically it's there, but with the camera always fixated to you, it's rendered pointless, you can still view the map situation based on
your allied units' POV. Secondly, each heroes only have 2 normal skills as opposed to 3. They do, however, still have passive and ultimate. All these allowed a very quick, fast-paced experience of the MOBA genre. Additionally, there are no consumable items in this game. If you ever need to recover your health or mana, there is a 'Regenerate' skill that is always available to every of your heroes which allows you to regenerate a portion of health and mana over time as long as you don't get hit. The lack of consumable items means that there is no ward items, but somehow it doesn't cause any serious problems in balance.

The
objective is to work with of the game, like all MOBA games, stay the same, however: Take your team to destroy eliminate the enemy base.
core, while preventing them to do the same on your core.

Wangzhe Rongyao (王者荣耀), unofficially translated as Honor of Kings or King of Glory, is a MultiplayerOnlineBattleArena developed by [=TiMi=] Studio Group and published by Creator/TencentGames for the Chinese mobile platform. Released in 2015, it has become the most popular mobile game in China, with over 100 million daily active players. As with other MOBA, your objective is to work with your team to destroy the enemy base.

to:

The year was 2015 in China. Creator/TencentGames, after acquiring Riot Games, asked Riot if they could port their magnum opus VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends into a mobile game, since mobile format was gaining momentum in China and competition was still pretty scarce (with only VideoGame/Vainglory being the main competition). Riot rejected it, stating that it was impossible. So Tencent decided to just make one by themselves by asking two of their other subdivisions that didn't think like Riot and saw the potential of a mobile MOBA: Lightspeed & Quantum Studios and [=TiMi=] Studios.

L&Q Studios created We MOBA, which utterly crushed [=TiMi=]'s League of Kings. After [=TiMi=] took down their game, they completely overhauled it, taking tips from Riot's very own VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends while also using various figures from Chinese mythology and history, which gained popularity through word for mouth and beating out L&Q. Then Riot finally noticed the kind of plagiarizing [=TiMi=] did and complained. Tencent complies to this, and [=TiMi=] got around changing their heroes' design to not look like copycats to League, and then renamed the game... into
Wangzhe Rongyao (王者荣耀), unofficially translated as Honor of Kings or King of Glory, Glory. And the rest is (Chinese) history.
