''Decap Attack'' was a weird PlatformGame developed by Creator/VicTokai and published by Creator/{{Sega}} for UsefulNotes/SegaGenesis[=/=]Mega Drive in 1991, and probably the only game in existence which starred a headless mummy. However, it began its life as a totally unrelated Japanese game called ''Magical Hat Flying Turbo Adventure'', based upon the {{anime}} ''Magical Hat''. When it arrived at the USA and Europe, it became a wacky monster adventure set in an island shaped like a skeleton body.

The story is, as always, pretty simple: the demon Max D. Cap emerges from the underworld and breaks Body Island into seven parts. MadScientist [[PunnyName Frank N. Stein]] creates a headless mummy named Chuck D. Head for the sole purpose of trying to defeat Max and rescue the island.

A curiosity of ''Decap Attack'' is that it was released in the same year advertisement began for ''Adventure of the Mummyhead'',[[note]]The Japanese title is in the English language.[[/note]] a game by Taito for PC Engine also about a head-throwing mummy. It was first mentioned in July 1991, advertised extensively in magazines, and the Oct.-Dec. 1991 issue of ''Taito Tigers'' features screenshots and gameplay information. The focus on the in-game date of Friday the 13th in December suggests the game may have also been meant to be out by that day, because December 13, 1991 was a Friday. However, nothing came of it and the game was, apparently, quietly cancelled. That ''Decap Attack'' and ''Adventure of the Mummyhead'' are related is not a question, but the how of it all is unknown. Incidentally, another headless mummy shows up, albeit as an antagonist, in 1997's ''[[VideoGame/MonsterSliderArcadeCabinet Monster Slider]]'' by Visco Games.

* PunnyName: Almost every name in this game is a pun of some sort. The main character is called "Chuck D. Head" ([[DontExplainTheJoke because he kills enemies by throwing a head at them!]]), his creator is named "[[Literature/{{Frankenstein}} Frank N. Stein]]", and the BigBad is "Max D. Cap". The names of the various locations are all puns on the name of the body part they resemble, such as "Armington", "El Beau (''elbow'') Island", "Tibuland" (''tibula'') and so on.

* ArtEvolution: The characters quickly evolve from looking close to their game designs to more exaggerated, wackier interpretations over the course of the first strip.
** Head's cheekbones change over time from protruding points to large hook shapes, as does his chin.

** The "Who Killed Chuck?" storyline features a full page dedicated to Stein performing a delicate surgery on a disembodied brain... with a large hammer. And the gameshow contestant is still in the dungeons.
** "Monster of the Year" has some unpleasant train passengers attempt to fight Chuck, disguised with Head as a normal person. When their leader knocks Head off Chuck's shoulders, they flee screaming in terror that they've just murdered someone.
