[[folder:What's the work?]]

''Largo Winch: La Cyclope'' (The Cyclops) is the second book in the Largo Winch series. It's the basis for the volumes ''H'' and ''Dutch Connection''.

Largo Winch at a charity gala, is offered the severed head of his friend Sveig Larsen. He's then framed as the leader of a heroin trafficking ring. Worse, the mercenary known as the Cyclops

Long story short, the mastermind Joop van Dreema is bad but not exceptional for his tier. The Cyclops herself doesn't count for reasons that will soon become obvious. Enter this utter piece of shit.

[[folder:The Candidate]]
'''Who's Sir Benedict Killian-Vaughn?'''

Introduced as a friendly English war hero and successful businessman, he turns out to be a ruthless member of the heroin cartel. But even worse, Sir Benedict is actually a cruel nazi officer who disappeared after WWII.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:What has he done?]]

* Despite being originally Dutch, a 19 years old Steffan von Trotta [[TheQuisling joined the Germans on his own initiative]] and took both the German nationality and membership of the National Socialist German Workers. Renowned for his efficient leadership and utter lack of morals, he fought in Greece and Russian and as well took part in "two or three massacres". He also didn't give a rat's ass upon learning that his own father was killed during the invasion of his hometown of Enschede.

* A while later, he was rewarded with the commandment of the prisoner camp in Maastricht. One day, an unfortunate girl "who was not even 16" fell into his clutches. Not even bothering to ask for her name, he simply called her "Slaaf" (literally "slave" in Dutch) and decided to break her ForTheEvulz. Keeping her imprisonned in the basement of his cottage, he tortured her at length and repeatedly raped her. He also came up with various and disgusting depravities - that I will not mention for the sake of cautiousness, I will just say that one of those involved ''[[BestialityIsDepraved a dog]]''. When he got bored, he also invited his sadistic mistresses so they could take turns in ravishing her. Eventually, Slaaf became so submissive that she no longer had to be restrained.

* When the Allies were about to win the war and free the Netherlands, Von Trotta concocted a plan to escape trials. One of the prisoners was Benedict Killian, a young British soldier who had no family. Steffan murdered his 8 companions and then tortured him day after day for six months in order to learn his whole life. When he finally killed Killian, the latter "barely looked human" by that point. To clear his tracks, he also ordered the aforementioned dog to maul Slaaf to death. He then threw himself in a fire to disfigure himself before the Allies found him.

* Successfully usurping the identity of Benedict Killian and rewarded by the British Monarchy for his supposed heroism, Von Trotta became a successful businessman and married Lady Stephanie Vaughn, daughter of an impoverished lord. As it is revealed late in the novel? Over their 20 years of marriage, "Benedict" unscrupulously abused Stephanie to the point that she describes herself as "his slave and his plaything".Yet she's still devoted to him. To keep her under his thumb, he had her severely addicted to heroin. By the start of the story, she has to take 2 injections per day and her arms are completely covered in scars and black veins.

* All things go quiet and well for him until years later, the BigBad Joop Van Dreema blackmails Sir Benedict threatening to expose his real identity in order to compel him to join the heroin cartel.

* At the start of the novel, Benedict is tasked with the downfall of the handsome billionaire. Befriending him, he sends his accomplice Perceval Griffiths with Largo who enter a car with two police officers. Griffiths coldly kills the policemen in order to frame Largo for the murders. When Griffiths returns to Benedict, the latter rewards him with a knife in the throat. Largo however escapes and, stumbling upon Stefanie, abducts her and forces her to help him and escape the country (it's ok because she has the hot for him - _ -)

* Anyway, Benedit ambushes and drags Largo into a hotel thanks to Stefanie's complicity. It turns out he has his own agenda. He attempts to extort 20 billion in exchange for the gun that killed the policeman. It backfires since Largo already wiped out his fingerprints. He then proposes to help him expose Van Dreema (and get rid of the one who knows his secrets) to no avail. Long story short, Benedict is forced to release Largo when the cops come to his hotel.

* Desperate, Benedict plans to save his skin by meeting with his accomplice Olenka "The Cyclops". Having hired 4 killers, he plans to kill her men before torturing Olenka herself into revealing the localization of their stock of heroin and then use money to start a new life elsewhere. Olenka however, outsmarts him and her minions kills the assassins first. She then dramatically reveals that she's none other than his former victim "Slaaf" who survived the dog's attack. As revenge is best served cold, she has Benedict fed to her hungry dog.

Anyway, Olenka manipulates the drug addicted Stephanie against Van Dreema by promising her to release her husband (concealing the fact that he's already dead). Once it's over, Olenka lures Stephanie into a booby trapped house and the explosion "[[ExactWords reunites her with her husband]]".

After delivering Van Dreema to Largo, Olenka escapes by taking Freddy Kaplan hostage.

Yay!

FYI, the comic has a much happier ending. Stephanie Vaghn's counterpart, Solange Vandenberg is a widow and she quietly leaves by train halfway through the story and undergoes rehab. And Largo [[https://2.bp.blogspot.com/VSEWWJISRp8ANkLetcM0XhKP4tDBAPFZBSlZIPoHhMA_XIvuIUq9zt97SFbBlYXpZex_hts96aOlKQAasPm_iOYmBXuyMwyYLvKrYOgRYBkXVmt0vrb8FoYh9Yx61pzAL13CxMuS9g=s1600?rhlupa=MmEwMjphMDNmOjYxNjk6NGEwMDo2ODkyOjZjY2M6MzdhZDpkZTcz&rnvuka=TW96aWxsYS81LjAgKFdpbmRvd3MgTlQgMTAuMDsgV2luNjQ7IHg2NCkgQXBwbGVXZWJLaXQvNTM3LjM2IChLSFRNTCwgbGlrZSBHZWNrbykgQ2hyb21lLzExMS4wLjAuMCBTYWZhcmkvNTM3LjM2 freaking explodes the bad guys' plane]].

That one is easy no. Sir Benedict is just human garbage.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Heinous Standard]]

In most works, his downright '''ABOMINABLE''' treatment of a 15 years old girl on its own would be an easy one-way ticket to CMDom. Largo Winch however has a high standard.

Obviously, Steffan/Benedict has less resources than Ortega. The latter is a high ranked military leader with hundreds of men under his command while Steffan spent most of his life in hiding.

As infuriating as it sounds, his victim the Cyclops seriously poses some competition as she responsible for a series of massacre including the gang rape of two women (and likely more). Granted this was partly on Ortega's orders but she had no problem with it.

Notable rapists include one who kills and murder Simon's girlfriend in the first book and two thugs who attempt to gang rape Domenica in the third book. Oh and Largo himself on ''two separate occasions'' gets drugged raped by two women who [[KarmaHoudini both get away with it]] and [[DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale the whole thing is played as a minor inconveniant]].

But Benedict might have the quality over quantity. I mean his torture and serial rape of a girl is like beyond the fucking pale. His treatment of his wife is also reprehensible.

!!'''Complete Monster Proposals''':

[[folder:What's the work?]]

I already brought ComicBook/LargoWinch, the story of an orphan who inherits the fortune from his adoptive father and faces muliple conspiracies and crimes.

I proposed candidates from the comics, the films and the live-action series. It's time to go back to the source and dwelve upon the original novels. In the 70's, author Jean Van Hamme after a failed first draft as a comic decided to launch Largo Winch as a series of airport novels. Said novels are considerably edgier and matures with lots of graphic violence and ''very explicit'' sex scenes. When Van Hamme later adapted the novels into comics, he considerably toned it down.

''La Forteresse de Makiling'' (Fort Makiling) and ''Les Révoltés de Zamboanga'' (The Revolted men of Zamboanga) are the fourth and fifth books of the series that are the basis of the comics ''Fort Makiling'' and ''The Hour of the Tiger''. There are two major changes: 1) [[AdaptationalLocationChange the location was changed from the Philippines to Burma]] 2) [[Compressed Adaptation 70% of the plot was thrown away]]

Largo's friend Simon Ben Chaim is wrongfully accued of complicity in the massacre of an American yacht in the peninsula of Zamboanga. Imprisonned in the Fortress Makiling, Simon awais his execution along with fellow prisonners. Largo then travels to the Philipines to save his friend.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Candidate]]

'''Who's the Cyclops?'''

An amoral mercenary, Olenka, aka "The Cyclops" because she covers her injured eye with a headband, is a sadistic and depraved leader of a crew responsible for drug trafficking and many murders. She's awful to her own men as well, killing them for failures or simply outliving their usefulness. She's also fond of arranging execution to which [[OrgasmicCombat she literally fingers herself]].

At her absolute worst, she commits a series of massacres to frame an oppressed minority and justify her employer in his genocidal plan. So you'd think she's an easy keeper.

But you'd be wrong. You see when she was 15, a nazi officer imprisonned her in his basement, tortured her a length and repeatedly raped her into submission. Even after escaping him, losing her eye in the process, she underwent lots of hardship. In her last breath, she also compliments Largo for his courage and thanks him for calling her by her real name.

She's bad enough but the '''PLANET-SIZED''' FreudianExcuse is a stumbling block to her qualifications especially when she makes clear that her backstory shaped the person she is.

Instead, my first candidate is one of her "employers".

'''Who's Angel Ortega?'''

[IronicName Angel]] Ortega is a military leader under the dictatorship of President UsefulNotes/FerdinandMarcos, specifically the Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff of Southern Command in charge of Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago.

A cruel and ambitious man, he actively takes part in the oppression of the Moro communities. It's noted that he would be godly handsome if he didn't have such creepy soul sucking eyes.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:What has he done?]]

Starting with a brief history lesson: President Marcos placed the country under the Martial Law as a flimsy excuseto extend his mandate (and even nominated himself as prime minister). His regime saw a series of massacres and oppression of the indgenous muslim community known as the Moros.

Even though Marcos officially signed a truce (mostly for pragmatic reasons rather than kindness), colonel Ortega wants to restart the hostilities.

* At the end of book 2 ''The Cyclops'', The cyclops escaped Largo and friends taking Freddy Kaplan with her. On their way, She and her crew end up captured by Ortega. Unfortunately, Kaplan ends up locked up in a small dark cell for 8 months [[GoMadFromTheIsolation driving the man crazy from isolation]]. At the end of it, Kaplan is unrecognizable with premature white hair and all around a broken shell willing to do anything not to never go back in this hole. Along with 12 other hardened criminals, Kaplan is forced to work with Ortega and the Cyclops.

* The colonel sends the Cyclops and her crew to murder seven boat crews and intentionally drive their wreckage near the Moro's villages to [[FalseFlagOperation frame them for those crimes]].

* However, Ortega seeks the help from the US Army. To catch their attention, Ortega, with the complicity of corrupt CIA secretary Henry Anderson, billionaire Horace Midsummer and the latter's son Graham Midsummer, has the entire crew of the ''Morning Rose'' (a yacht own by Midsummer) brutally killed by the pirates- 12 victims in total(10 men and 2 women). However, Graham Midsummer's death is actually faked and swept with a random pirate so that his father can play the victim and ask for revenge.

* At the start of the novel, Simon Ben Chaim and the female rebel Malunai discover the aftermath of the carnage inside the wreckage of ''The Morning Rose''. The corpses of the two women are found naked, horribly mutilated with "blood dripping from their ripped anus". This ''almost'' confirms that reprehensible acts were committed upon them either before or after their death.

* Simon and Malunai barely escape the attack of the Cyclops and ake refuge to Malunai's village. Ortega and his men capture Simon and Malunai's father Kadjang and 8 other random civilians and bring them all to Makiling Fortress, both TheAlcatraz and a HellHolePrison, where they are fed with only rice and dirty water.

* Ortega oversees himself the torture of the prisoners for five days which involves beating up, cigaret burning, icy water, and [[ElectricTorture an electric chair]]. Both to make them "admit" their culpability in the Morning Rose massacre and learn about the localization of the rebel camp. Two men die in the process and Simon is himself interrogated with a squeezing metal ring on his head.

* Simon bravely remains silent but Ortega, thanks to a micro placed under a wound, learns about Kadjand's daughter Malunai and sends his men to kill her.

* The KangarooCourt formally condemns the seven surviving prisoners to be hanged and have their corpses publicly exposed as an example.

* Ortega sends two assassins after Largo Winch and Massar Gur Mannakan (who sells information) in New York. Mannakan gets killed but Largo successfully defends himself and kills one of the hitmen. [[YouHaveFailedMe Ortega treacherously disposes of the surviving one with a lethal injection]].

* Nonetheless, Largo successfully reaches Manilla but Ortega jails him after framing him for drug use. Largo escapes and, with the help of a chinese Triad, timely rescues Simon and his seven companions at Maikiling.

* It is further revealed that Ortega wants two bomber planes to not only destroy the rebel camp but also the villages in the vicinity so that his ally Midsummer can harvest the Tantale stones in the region. Afterward, [[TheStarscream he will attack the presidential palace with his squad, kill President Marcos and his security guards and seize power]].

* American colonel Trevor Daniel unswayed by Ortega's pleas refuses to provide what he wants so Ortega arranges to have him killed in an ambush by soldiers disguised as Moros rebels. Daniel escapes the traps thanks to Largo's intervention and caporal Nathanael Foster's HeroicSacrifice.

* Angel Ortega then seizes journalist Johnny "Keyhole" French, strips him naked and imprisons him a dark cell with spiders for two hours. Afterward, he convinces Keyhole to work for him as a mole and help him locate the Moro camp with a secret transmitter.

* Largo Winch soon releases Keyhole and flees from his mansion by using Ortega as a hostage but then Largo releases him at the border of the jungle. Ortega then seizes the opportunity, and with a machine gun- a model primarily used by Moros- [[BadBoss shoots down three of his own men]] who came to rescue him and also ambassador Henry Anderson before injuring his arm and leg so [[FalseFlagOperation he can spread the lies that he survived an assault from the Moros]].

* The pirates having outlived their usefulness, Ortega and the Cyclops treacherously kill them all - 11 men in total with [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe the last one getting sawn in half]]. Then Ortega betrays the Cyclops herself by jabbing a knife InTheBack.

* Ortega and his soldiers ambush Largo and Simon in the Cyclops' lair where he gleefully reveals his plans. He soon brings Simon’s girlfriend Marjan Texel and proceeds to torture her by using pliers on her left breast in order to compel Largo to call his allies and retreat. Largo feigns to comply but instead calls for attack on the fort. Ortega leaves to prepare his troops and angrily orders to kill Largo, Simon and Marjan. Thankfully, the good guys defend themselves and escape.

* Long story short, TheCavalry beats the army but Ortega escapes. He prepares to lead the bombers to the rebel camp but he’s stopped in time by Freddy Kaplan who [[HeroicSacrifice crashes his plane on Ortega’s killing them both]].

Later, Largo mails to Horace Midsommer a gun and evidences of his complicity with Ortega succesfully goading him into suicide.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mitigating Factors]]

Nope. He's a textbook NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist. He claims to fight the Moros because they're lawless criminals before he turns out to be behind their alleged crimes.

Angel is an amoral prick who only seeks power and is willing to [[ChronicBackstabbingDisorder throw his allies and own men under the bus]] for his ambition.

Unlike the Cyclops, he's not given any tragic backstory.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Heinous Standard]]

If the Cyclops didn't already give the hint, the standard of the book series is jacked up. I'm not lying when I say that they are edgier than the comics.

* From the first two books, Michel Cardignac and Joop van Dreema lead a drug trafficking ring, ar responsible for a dozen of murders including driving Largo's adoptive father to suicide and torturing Simon's wife to death.

* Robert Cotton from ''The Last Doge'' also has many murders at his hand, plans to blow four entire floors full of people and force Largo to watch two women burn to death [[DisproportionateRetribution out of a pretty grudge against Largo who fired him]].

* Hakim Ben Zayed, from ''Business Blue'', is a terrorist who also murders his own girlfriend.

None of them have redeeming qualities but they don't quiete trespass the treshold and blend with each otheres. I almost considered Cotton but I think Ortega, the Cyclops and my next candidate blow him out of the water.

Now I've covered the major BigBad|s but there is no shortage of vile secondary and minor villains.

The first book alone has an assassin with a confirmed bodycount of 20, Simon's backstory involving him to be repeatedly raped by a female officer, a warden of a HellHolePrison who's also a pedophile (unfortunately OffscreenVillainy) and Largo's adoptive father who enriched himself through unscrupulous means including by financing wars.

Other honorable mentions including the Triad who gives torturous death to those who snitches, two pricks who attempts to gang-rape Domenica and the nazi officer who tortured/raped Olenka.

Ortega's co-conspirators, Anderson, Midsummer and Midsummer Jr all willingly sacrifice an entire crew to help the colonel but they don't commit any other crimes. Midsummer Sr. is shown to love his son while Anderson is horrified by Ortage's brutality.

President Marcos is technically the GreaterScopeVillain of this arc but he never shows up. Note that he was still alive and in office when the novels were published.

Did I mention that Largo Winch himself is quite scummy? In the first book, he almost angrily rapes his love interrest and [[NearRapeExperience only comes to his sense and apologize]] after ripping off her dress. He also sleeps with a 17 year old girl while he's 29 like it's no big deal whatsoever. I love ValuesDissonance.

But even with this uphill battle, I believe Ortega's the worst of the worst in the novel series. His plan of bombing multiple villages is the largest scale scheme in this continuity and he has one of the biggest kills and tortures. Being the BigBad of two novels certainly helps. At one point, he claims to have interrogated over 50 Moros to find the rebel's camp to no avail and we are given a picture of what his interrogations entails.

Nope. He's a textbook NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist. He claims to fight the Moros because they're lawless criminals before he turns out to be behind their alleged crimes.

Later, Largo mails to Horace Midsommer a gun and evidences of his complicity with Ortega which drives him into suicide.

Nope. He's a textbook NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist. He claims to fight the Moros because they're lawless criminals but he turns out to be behind their alleged crimes.

Angel is an amoral prick who only seeks power and is willing to [[ChronicBackstabbingDisorder throw his allies and own men under the bus]] for his ambition.

Unlike the Cyclops, he's not given any tragic backstory.

[[folder:Heinous Standard]]

If the Cyclops didn't already give the hint, the standard of the book series is jacked up. I'm not lying when I say that they are edgier than the comics.

*From the first two books, Michel Cardignac and Joop van Dreema lead a drug trafficking ring, ar responsible for a dozen of murders including driving Largo's adoptive father to suicide and torturing Simon's wife to death.

*Robert Cotton from ''The Last Doge'' also has many murders at his hand, plans to blow four entire floors full of people and force Largo to watch two women burn to death [[DisproportionateRetribution out of a pretty grudge against Largo who fired him]].

*Hakim Ben Zayed, from ''Business Blue'', is a terrorist who also murders his own girlfriend.

The first book alone has an assassin with a confirmed 20 in bodycount, Simon's backstory involving him to be repeatedly raped by a female officer, a warden of a HellHolePrison who's also a pedophile (unfortunately OffscreenVillainy) and Largo's adoptive father who enriched himself through unscrupulous mens including by financing wars.

Other honorable mentions including the Triad who give torturous death to those who snitches, two pricks who attempts to gang-rape Domenica and the nazi officer who tortured/raped Olenka.

In the first book, he almost angrily rapes his love interrest and [[NearRapeExperience only comes to his sense and apologize]] after ripping her dress.
